'08 and '09 owners with satellite radio
Hi,
a question for owners with '08-'09 ISF with satellite radio. I have the Sirius radio system and it cuts out every time I go under an over pass, bridge, etc. even on the high way at speeds of 65 mph+. Does this happen to you too?
Reason I ask: I currently am driving a loaner 2011 RX350 and the XM radio NEVER cuts out.
My questions:
Is there something wrong with my system?
Is there a difference between Sirius and XM service?
Is it just that the '10-'11 cars with the hard disk based systems buffer more music so there are no drop outs?
Please discuss
Thanks!
Andy

I have an 08, but I'm not sure whether my service is XM or Sirius. I think it is XM, because I had to pay extra for Howard Stern.
Either way, my radio never cuts out, I am impressed by it. In another car of mine I had an XM that did cut out in a tunnel around here, and the one in the ISF doesn't cut out. Obviously it depends on your location, time of day, and radio, but this is just evidence that mine works well where another radio does not work well.

I have an '08 (IS350) w/XM (believe it's the same part number as the -f) and yes it cuts out underneath overpasses, etc.
I'm not sure what the difference is in the buffer in 08's vs 11, but I'm under the impression that some larger cities supplement their satellite radio with ground based antennas, so that could be a factor for some of the responses in this thread.

Mine seems to be really bad. Maybe I'll have someone look at it.
If I recall correctly there was a XM or Sirius choice, went with Sirius.
I'm in a pretty big metropolitan area (San Jose, CA) and would think that if there is terrestrial support they would have it here... but my signal sucks.
I'll have it checked.

I have the same problem with my car. It cuts out way more than it should. My GTR never cuts out. I dont think it matters if it is sirius or XM because now they are the same.
I dont know the reason but its not the way it should be.

My XM was a new install in September (I have an 09) and have not had any issues of cutting out, if I remember correctly.
Maybe relating, I recently bought a deck/navi combo for my Rav4 with XM. The instructions say to install the satellite antennae on the roof, but the shop where I had the install choose to instead, install it on the dash. B/c of this, I get frequent cut-offs through underpasses, and even at drive thru windows. Needless to say, it's just a matter of time, before I take the car back to the audio shop and have them relocate the antennae to the outside roof, per the instructions. Therefore, I wonder if your XM antennae might have the same issue. Did you have the dealer install it or a lazy audio shop who installed the antennae at a spot convenient to them rather than what was best for reception?
