2011 ISF weekend caliper project
I did few mods this past weekend I painted the Calipers just few pics also did intake Flap mods and installed Joe -Z intake will post those pics up when I download them. Note as the caliper paint dried they got a little darker I used G2 paint system also VHT Black Rotor/Caliper paint 900F and VHT Clear 900F paint. First thing was to sand down hubs and calipers then lay down three coats of paint the hub portion of rotor then calipers, once dried then applied high heat vinyl decal and finished everything off with three light coats of clear.

Thanks guys, PurduePete you are right about the time it not hard just very labor intensive and time consuming. Here how I did the calipers on my ISF sand down the rotors and calipers, apply (3 coats) of VHT Black rotor paint to each hub and then (3 coats) of VHT Clear to each hub and then repeat this process for each Caliper accept this time using G2 paint for the calipers and when you add drying time between coats it adds up. I've done this to several cars that I have owned so have this down to science but it still takes around 12 hours to complete. If you dont apply as many coats you can save some time. But by going this route your hubs and and caliper will last for years believe me its worth the extra effort.

A few questions:
In some of the pictures it looks like the rotor was painted black along with the hub. Did you tape off the rotor?
Did you clear coat both the hubs and the calipers?
Is the G2 system the one you apply with a brush?
Where did you get your decals?
What did you use to sand the calipers? Grit?
How long did it take you from start to finish?
Thanks!

Nice job! Looks like the blue matches up pretty well. I did mine awhile ago and it still looks great. How did you get the decal to look beveled though? Is it just an illusion or is the decal itself raised?

Question 1- yes I did tape off the rotor and cover calipers and applied (3) coats of VHT Black Rotor&Caliper paint to hub portion of rotor. I do this because after a year or so the hubs will start to rust especially if you live were it rains or snows. This will help prevent that from occurring as well as giving the hubs I nice finished appearance.
Question 2- yes I cleared both rotors and the calipers with (3) coats each of VHT High Heat Clear rated to 900F this clear is also chemical resistance. I do this for several reason one to help protect vinyl decals from over time picking up any contaminants such as road grim, brake dust etc this will help them look nice and bright for years especially if decals are light color. Adding (3) coats of clear to calipers also helps cover any imperfections left behind during painting process and additional layers of protection and it just makes them look good lol.
Question 3- yes I used G2 paint system it's just my personal
choice. But you can use any high heat caliper &rotor paint just use a quality product such as VHT they make several different colors. It's all about prep clean the area first, then sand down, then hit with proper brake cleaner, acetone etc, (do not use degreaser) mask off calipers and rotors I used painters blue masking tape and start painting .
Question 4- eBay several companys offer high heat decals
Question 5- 400 & 1000 you only really need to use 400 but I'm very particular when it Comes to the calipers so I finished using 1000 grit.
Question 6- how long it took me 12 hours to complete allowing for drying time in between coats, if you apply less coats then this will save you some time.
I hope this helps good luck.
