Finally! A gas station in central Nor Cal that has 100 octane!
My quest for better octane rating has finally rested! Upon countless hours of google, i found a tip that an old 76 gas station there used to sell 100 octane gas but its been changed to a another brand called "Flyers." No one really knew if that gas station still sold 100 octane. I went there 4 weeks ago and there it was....The 100 octane race gas From reading reviews here, i decided to put in 8 gallons of 100 octane and 4 gallons of 91 octane. I figure the blend should yeld me around 93 octane or higher.
My initial take: Right off the bat, the car ran smoother and the low end torque picked up alot better. Power band felt much smoother and stronger. Lets just say it runs ALOT better.
Initial take 2: After 1 week of driving the F, i decided to refuel with just 91 octane. The results felt laggy. It felt like i had to gas it more to make it accelerate like it was on a blend of 100/91 octane.
Initial take 3: After another week of driving, i decided to refuel with a blend of 100/91 octane. Again, the power band was smooth across the rpm. LOW END TORQUE was definitely improved.
My conclusion: It really does ride better with a blend of higher octane. The engine ran so smooth.....power band felt good too. This is just butt dyno feel and my butt craves for more but the price is just ridiculous. For those who do want to try it, go for it. I didn't run full 100 octane but the blend i use was perfect.

Some of you don't understand octane. 100 octane won't yield you better results. 97 Octane(which the OP mixed) is also more likely past the optimal range of the engine. Not that those extra points are hurting anything, just that you don't benefit from those extra few points(which cost $$$). However I would try to mix 95 Octane, since this is what most of the world uses as far as high octane(and more likely the engine was designed for optimum performance using 95 octane).
If you are only going to put in 12 gallons, to get a mix of 95 Octane you would only need 5.5 gallons of 100 Octane and 6.5 gallons of 91 Octane. It is easy to calculate the ratios.
ok so halfway there i decided NAHHHH....i don't want to waste money since i don't really track this car. I also don't want to LIKE the results so much that now gas costs me 9 a gallon from now on. In other words i don't want to get used to the good stuff then go back to the normal stuff again. So i went and got some good old California 91. About half full i decided WTH and stopped the pump. Drove over to the spot with the 100 and filled it up the rest of the way. It will probably be the last time i do it for a while since i have no real need. But i do have a Polaris RZR 900 with a fat turbo on it so i know where to get better fuel now! so that is a plus! I ride in the sand dunes a lot so it seems like it will be better Especially places like Sand Mountain NV with the 700 ft tall dunes to climb.
Anyhow, it's probably all in my head, but it does seem to run smoother and i don't notice it backfiring when i down shift like it will sometimes. Like when i normally come to a stop once in a while the exhaust pops. Hasn't done it all day today. Is it all in my head? probably....but can't say i didn't try! and still glad i found a good local spot.
I never tried full tank of 100 octane but I did tried a mix. 11 gallons of 100 octane and 4 gallons of premium. I will tell you this....it's a waste of $$$. The car does run smoother though.

I figured I won't make an extra 100 horsepower from it, but I wanted to try it to see how it runs.
honestly, i think that there is a little more in there, but you should reset the ECU so it can relearn and realize it's not going to knock. We used to do that all the time on the surpas. I'm sure on the hot 105F days, here in cali with the dry air it doesn't help that I run 91. I tried mixing a few gallons of E85 a few times... Didn't notice anything good or bad... that was about 30k miles ago.
