Are Hawk HPS Ceramic Brake Pads Pre-Shimmed RESPONSE NEEDED

I'm currently installing my new hawk ceramics and i noticed on the back where the oem shim would go there is already a thin piece of metal there.

Do I still re-use the stock oem shim with the Hawk brake pads?

I used the stock shims as well. I believe the piece on the new pad is for reinforcement. I hope I am correct but have had mine on for about two months and they work perfectly.

Well I put them on without and I haven't experienced any negative effect. I suppose if anyone chimes in with reasoning for needing them I can still put them on.
