I went to a hotel party for new years, and usually before i give the keys to some douche bag wearing a red vest i usually memorize the mileage on my B trip, the gas needle, and the Tank to empty reading.....
B trip meter before the party 436.8
B trip the next day when I went to retrieve it 484.9
tank needle was a under 3/4 and reading 207 till empty
gas needle exactly the same spot
tank reading to empty --- exactly 207
not only the little ***** filled up my tank but he thought he was slick and recorded the tank reading...
I was soooo pissed off that I created a scene. They assured me that no cars were taken off the lot. I ask for cameras... and the manager told me that cameras view only cars leaving and going the self parking lot....damn a holes!!!!! Im thinking of suing but I have no proof except for my memory. please helpwhich I know I am right

tbh, you're more likely to have not remembered the mileage correctly than the valet is likely the get the miles remaining EXACTLY 100mi below what you brought it in as after driving ~50miles AND filling back up to where it was.
next time, snap a picture of your odometer with your cell phone, the few times i've ever had to valet my car (due to lack of other options or being 45minutes late to my own cousin's wedding) I just tipped the valet a small amount, told him i had recorded the mileage, and that its so loud i'd hear him messing around with it. and that if he played nice he'd get a fatty tip

I've used valet parking before, always tell the guy the mileage on both A & B odometer readings, if there's any discrepancy he'll be valeting a GLOCK !! Works every time

If this kind of thing bothers you (it would bother me), I would install a GPS tracker into your car. Sure you can not use valet's but sometimes there is no choice like when you drop the car off at the dealer, and some high-end hotels and condos don't offer self-parking for visitors unless you are prepared to walk 10 minutes to the closest public lot.
Escort makes a very good vehicle tracker, the Escort Entourage CIS. It will ping you instantly the moment the car leaves the hotel, and track where it went.

when i took mine in to lexus of colorado springs for the new rear view mirror... girl at the front sez "I need to test drive your car to verify the mirror is vibrating"
man was she SHOCKED when i told her "uh.... NOPE".
i concur - never hand the keys to anyone you don't know and have the ability to hold accountable for their actions!

That said, I would have no problem with a service guy driving the car on a day visit to the service shop. They're pretty busy, they've got loads of Lexus's, there is no reason for them to abuse your car. The Valet is a different story entirely.

joyriding is not in the job description of the valet. they are liable in the event something went wrong, such as an engine malfunction or some sort of accident. even in the video of the valet drifting in the lot, imagine what wouldve happened if they drifted wrong and hit a concrete mortar holding up the ceiling of the lot. insane. always, and i do mean always, have proof of such happening. cell pix that odometer- hell, even the whole cluster with the mileage and tank average and such. it is evidence of wrongdoing by the valet, and im pretty sure the company will be held responsible.
as for my experiences, valet is unnecessary in most cases. i go to a restaurant where they want me to hand my keys over just so they can park the car ten feet over? they even have valet for the mall...personally, i dont see it as a necessity one bit.

i'm surprised at all the 'relax' comments. i guess i'm just a hot head. I would've caused an even bigger scene. next time leave a hidden camera and catch those guys in the act. you get a lot of leverage that way

I always snap a pic with the cell phone before dropping a car off with the valet. I remember the S2000 guys (back when they first came out) would put a post it on the dash with the mileage written as well, just a subtle hint to the valet that you're tracking the miles.

That is truly unfortunate, and I would be beyond pissed too. Suing is not an option, though - please don't tie up our legal system with another frivolous lawsuit. Rather, if you are still upset, hit them where it counts - reputation. Call up a local news channel and see if they'll run your story (or something similar). But you'd better be sure about your mileage reading, or else they'll try to sue you.
