Turning VSC Off (2 Different Ways/2 Different Results)
After flushing my car with Motul Brake Fluid for a track event this weekend I wanted to test if the 2 different ways of turning off VSC lead to the same result. I found out that they actually DO NOT.
Method 1: Holding VSC Button for 3 seconds/Long Push (Car must be stopped and in Park)
-This method will result in both the VSC Icon and "VSC" itself turning and staying on
-Others had mentioned this was easier than doing the "pedal dance" which is true but it does not have the same result. After turning off the VSC this way, traction control still engages. For example, put the car in M mode and from a stop turn right/left and midway through the turn floor the throttle. You will see the VSC light flickering. This means that traction control is working (car is applying brakes to rear inner wheel resulting in "electronic lsd" effect). This method only raises the threshold of traction control/VSC but does not completely turn it off.
Method 2: Pedal Dance
-This is accomplished by starting the car with the parking brake engaged. Then after the nav screen/main screen comes up, pump the brake pedal 2x, then parking brake 2x, then again brake pedal 2x.
-On the dash only the VSC icon will appear and not "VSC" itself
-Again, put the car in M mode and turn right/left from a stop and apply full throttle midway through the turn
-The VSC light WILL NOT flicker, meaning NO TRACTION CONTROL is engaged
-This method will completely turn off VSC/traction control/braking inner rear wheel/"electronic lsd"
Why may this be of any importance? For those contemplating retrofitting a TBD, there should not be ANY issues. For one the TBD takes all the torque from the inner wheel (where the "electronic lsd" would be working) and applies it to the outer wheel. In addition because the pedal dance completely shuts off the VSC there will not be any issues with traction and the TBD if the pedal dance is done.
In my Cayman S, I added an aftermarket Quaife TBD and the traction light (PSM) will flicker on occasion meaning traction control ("electronic lsd" effect) is working. All cars have "electronic lsd" = Traction Control. However if I shut off the PSM, the light never flickers meaning traction control is completely off and not working. Hope you guys found this interesting. Try it for yourself and see.

you can hold the button for like 8-10 secs and it turns off completely. might not even take that long. you need to be stopped though. did it in a few secs at a stop light the other day.

The stopped part makes all the difference. Try that and I think you should be plenty satisfied .

Your second method reminds me a decade ago when I used to play computer games... LOL.
In the past I've had VSC completely OFF (pushing the VSC button for a few seconds until it shows the icon plus the OFF sign) and under certain conditions the VSC icon flashed, so your post makes a lot of sense. I'll try the computer code method today and post back my findings.

Good work..
In method 1:
Did you still get the audible beeping sound when a "major skid" is detected???
I'm going to run down to my car durning a lunch break, to see the different Icons displayed with both methods..
Thanks

No beep, only a flickering VSC Icon.
