Yep that is exactly what I was getting at. My wife will probably use the Key Fobs. The slim key is more for me. I don't really want the key fobs bouncing around in my pockets, cargo shorts Lol.

Now I just have to get one.. And also make my ISF intro post still.. Lol.

I added my Lexus "F" credit card as a 3rd key (after the dealer programmed it for me for free at my 1,000mi service). Still working fine, but I did get a "low key batt" display on a cold day on the dash this week, so I think it's time for a new battery (came with that one, and Sewell sent a new replacement with it as well, as a courtesy)... so dang, now I need to find that spare coin battery.

That's what I do, the card is mine but the wife uses the fob.

I ordered one off eBay since I had a hard timing finding them locally. I was worried once the low batt came on I would get stranded somewhere with the doors locked or it wouldn't start the car....

So I saw a YouTube vid that showed how the normal key fob works as a NFC type device when the fob battery is actually dead, so worse case scenario you still cannot be stranded or locked out ... as long as the car battery works.

Can anyone confirm if the credit card works in the same way? Powerless NFC functionality by immediate proximity

I hope I don't *have* to try this out as I have still have not replaced the coin battery. But the message was a one-off (so far it hasn't been back), and I was pleased to see that this credit card key was so tightly integrated with the IS F, that the information display even read the battery level and reported about it

Since it was new, I have noticed that if I place my smartphone against the credit card key, in my pocket for instance, the car has trouble seeing the key - that could however be due to a low battery too

Regards,
- Kirk

I was recently at dealer browsing some of the newer cars and I asked the salesman about the credit card key for the new cars. He informed me that they are no longer available with the new cars. I asked him why, since I really like mine with my F. He said there were too many people breaking them in their pockets.

I keep mine in my wallet firmly wedged among other cards so I hope mine never breaks..I suppose all of us should take this as a warning of the potential to break them in our pockets..

.
Dang! You'd think they could just redesign a fortified version? I mean... we all know Apple is fortifying the bend-proofness of iPhone 6S after the whole bend-gate fiasco...

As a PSA to all other 08 ISF owners, the above information is incorrect. I had the dealer look up the smart card for my car without giving them a part number and they came up with this number. I went in today when it arrived and spent 3 hours with them trying to get the card to program. The car wouldn't recognize it even after the full keys reset. 89904-50480 Will NOT work on an 08. We looked up the other two listed in this thread. But gambling at 300 a pop I was hesitant. I called Sewell and they confirmed that for the 08 89904-50642 is the correct card for the 08 ISF. Which was listed by Archie in a previous post.

Fortunately the dealer did not charge me for the 50480 nor the time spent trying to program it. However, the 50642 is all in and I'm paying no matter what since they didn't want to get stuck with two cards to sit on a shelf.

So, the information that I've gathered.

89904-50480 MY09 - ?? ISF
89904-53130 MY10 ISF (Discontinued)
89904-53131 MY10 - 14 ISF
89904-50641 MY08 LS460/LX570 (Discontinued)
89904-50642 MY08 - 09 LS460/LX570 & 08 ISF

89904-50642 MY08 - 09 LS460/LX570 & 08 ISF
I went through the same trouble, however I ordered the first card (50480) online for about $187 shipped. Luckily, they understood that it would not program to my car and accepted the return and sent me the 50642 for about $20 more.

So the interesting thing about this is, when I go to an online EPC source and look up a generic '08 IS F, I get the 50480 number. When I put my VIN into the tool, I get "not applicable" implying there is no card key that will work for my VIN.

Now I am very curious how many parts are VIN specific (like these keys) and what will and won't work.

One of the other parts I wonder about is the engine undercover. They changed the part number is 2011, and the later part is quite a bit cheaper than the earlier one. What I wonder is, what changed, why is it cheaper, and will it fit on an earlier model car? We all know the power steering ECUs are interchangeable (and the later model ones definitely feel different - better IMHO).
