Default The $200 IS-F Exhaust Mod

I have never been a big believer in paying more then you need to, so I started looking into exhaust options for my F. I Noticed that MRxSLAYx on the forums had good luck running a moddified stock exhaust. After talking to him and finding out what he had removed I decided to go ahead with this route instead of purchasing a full aftermarket unit. I figured if I was not happy with the sound or performance I would just bit the bullet and go with a full custom set up. I attached a link to a sound clip if others are interested in going in this direction. I can tell you that I picked up a 1 1/2 on my usual race buddy by adding this mod and a JoeZ intake. That is a good power pick up in my book.

The Mod: Remove secondary cats (Replace with Stainless Pipe) Remove mufflers (Replace with Stainless Pipe and rehang). It Cost me $200

Welcome to the custom OEM exhaust club... LOL. I did it sometime ago while I was doing research on catback systems, and I think I'll be keeping my car this way. I'll try to hit the dyno soon, I'm curious about this mod because it feels like I picked up quite a few HP.

sounds incredible, and for 200, thats relatively inexpensive to get a lil extra hp from the exhausts. nice work dude!

Sounds really mean.... Post a vid outside and compare exhaust notes. We all know that parking garage exhaust sounds incredible if you have had exhaust work done..

For $200 The F sounds great.. IMO a great way to save about 1500 and get the same results...

Tony

P.S. Could i possibly achieve that by deleting the secondary cats on my GS?

The results are not the same. The exhaust is staying a two into one into two. That is not a dual exhaust system. BTW, on the stock system there is only one resonator, not two.

I, for one, have mixed feelings about the sound coming from any of the after market systems, and especially from this modification that keeps only the two primary cats and the one resonator. I wanted a dual system that didn't yell boy racer, but still sounded good and added a bit of power. As some of you know, I chose to have my local muffler shop fabricate a dual system that eliminated the secondary cats and the one resonator. It added a couple of glasspacks, kept the primary cats, and the stock mufflers. I, my neighbors, and friends think it sounds great. One of my neighbors described it as sounding like a tuned exhaust.

I did this a few weeks ago $80 bucks lol ......But i left the cats and just dropped the mufflers, didn't want to completely butcher the exhaust. But I love it, it sounds super sick on the road and have had a lot of complements on it. Love it!!

My car makes 386-388whp in 6th gear with the JoeZ intake and my custom exhaust setup that still utilizes the stock resonator. I would say that the results, performance wise are very similar. My results vs other cars has proven the mods effectiveness. For example, my friends jb3 335 walked all over me when i was stock, but currently im about half a car faster than his bmw. I gained about 2-2.5 cars from a roll.
