Default Is there anything that seals off or encloses the filter?

^You are 100% correct. There in no WAY K&N put in half the research for their intake that Lexus/Toyota did for their Stock intake design. Trust me from experience.

Installed the intake today! Very, Very happy with it! With the heat shield and the factory fresh air scoop being used, I don't think heat will be too much of a problem. The sound is crazy with the Joe Z exhaust combined, and the car does feel quicker as well. Overall I give K&N an A+

I was talking to a friend about cars and we had a discussion about open air intakes and Heat soak....anyway I told him about a possible decrease in performance and he told me it depends on the way the engine is designed He said that if that is the case (decrease per) then why does the 2008 Shelby GT500KR come with a open intake design?
I think its BS but it got me thinking does the shelby have open air intake and why would Ford do this?

Wouldn't the closure of the hood seal off that area? Can someone verify?

Also where's the cheapest place to buy that right now?

Two words answer that one easily..

Supercharged & Intercooled

The 2010 Shelby GT500 has this as well....

From what I'm reading, I'm guessing K&N has done a pretty good job on this intake cause I'm in the market for one. MOST people, would go for the Japanese stuff since this is American. Any videos or dynos? I can't seem to make up my mind since there isn't many parts out for the F yet
