The only reason I was going to consider the IS-F before is because I was hoping/expecting that it would be about $10k under a similary equipped M3 price. Even if we agree that the price is pretty much a wash between the two, why would I pay the same money for a car that is slower??? You don't buy a M3 or a IS-F for luxury, you buy these cars for their performance. If all you want is luxury, you can get a IS350 or 335i and save lots of money.
Spoken like a person who has never driven an ISF or an M3. I'll admit, the ISF may not have the legendary steering feel of the M3, but the ISF will be faster, quicker, have higher skid pad numbers, more horsepower, gobs more torque, quieter, smoother, more fuel efficient, more reliable, and better re-sale value. BTW, a similarly equipped M3 and ISF are about 9 grand apart.

the IS-F is priced just right, especially for those who are comparing it to the S4 or M3 to purchase!!!

an M3 optioned the way I want it encroaches terribly close to a GTR, there are people paying high 60s even 75k OTD for a M3 (these arent even fully loaded), no way in hell would I spend anywhere near 70k for a 3. GTRs interior is way better designed than a 3, luxury argument for any 3 would be weak vs a GTR or IS-F. Yes a GTR and M3 coupe can be directly compared. Any person who choses a 70k M3 over a 70k GTR is a badge enthusiast, not a driving enthusiast

I think you're doing some pretty heady justifying here yourself. I mean, these are luxury brands you're talking about. If you don't want luxury from your M3 or IS-F (and I certainly do), I'm sorry to say you're looking at the wrong vehicle segment. Any luxury sedan, even those badged for performance, are a pretty poor value from that perspective.

The ISF, yes. The M3 is next on my list because I've heard it's such an incredible car. Everything I claim about the ISF is FACT, not speculation.

Default Car and Driver think M3 Sedan cheaper than IS-F

Its not just 32 people who think that IS-F is overpriced. It Car&Driver themself think the E90 M3 is cheaper.

In my opinion, totally different cars both from an appearance perspective and use. The M3 appears like a nice German car while the GTR looks like some kid's idea of winged-sports car. Nothing wrong with that for a fun sports car but as a daily driver for anyone over 30, they might not want that boy-racer image. Plus, as far as I can tell from the pics, the GTR doesn't have much of a back seat.

Just because its a "nissan" doesnt meant it cant be compared with other makes. I dont see how you cannot directly compare a M3 coupe and GTR. Even 911 turbos and entry level exotics are compared.

I disagree. The Skyline is an awesome car but it doesn't mean it makes the new M3 obsolete. Two reasons.

1. It still comes down to preference. I am a tremendous driving enthusiast and I would still choose the M3 over the GTR. I prefer the more linear naturally aspirated engine of the M3 with 8 individual throttle bodies to the high powered turbo engine of the GTR. I also prefer being able to easily change the direction of the car using the throttle pedal with RWD. After driving an STi for 3 years I respect these types of cars, but I have become a bit tired of electronic wizardry and turbo lag. Even though the STi is not a laggy turbo car it still has an inherent delay and vagueness in its the throttle response. Comparably, my E46 M3 is much more responsive.

Just because one car is objectively (way) faster it doesn't mean it's better or more fun to drive. I will definitely have to try the Skyline but there are definitely redeeming points about the M car.

2. There is no way you're getting a USDM Skyline this year for 70k! MSRP on the M3 is 55k to 65k. MSRP on the Skyline is much higher, and after taxes and likely 1st year markup it will probably be closer to 90K.
