Yellow Fog Light Bulbs or Lamin-X Yellow Vinyl?
#48
I do like the yellow fog lights but I am having a tough time finding where to buy the overlay, I am thinking of putco and the overlay? Are they precut? Are they basically as yellow as the 1st gen IS?

I bought/installed the putcos and the yellow laminex overlays - I love the look and even with the overlays, the putcos put down plenty of light IMO.
I purchased an overlay sheet from laminex. I had to cut it and it was a bit of a pain to install...and it still does not look perfect (some small bubbles only visible up close). Part of the difficulty in installing the overlay is that I could not figure out how to remove the foglight cover, so I did not have a lot of room for error when cutting the overlay itself. I think if you remove the cover, install would be much easier.

here is a quick tutorial. I did not get into a lot of detail as most of the pictures will speak for themselves.
They will remove from the front, but note the drivers side one has a wiring harness attached on the upper prong from the inside. I also broke a prong off, trying to remove them this way
Release fender liner (2 clips) and pry apart from bumper - it is flexible and will allow you to reach in.
To remove the surround - it is held on by locking prongs, feeling around you will find the release tabs on all 4 corners - it seems to be easiest to pull on the outside, at the same time you release each one from the inside - the drivers side one has a wire harness connector on the upper left prong that will need removal as well - it should simply slide off with moderate pressure
The washer fluid piping lines are squared around the fog light, but no need to remove them, they are really not in the way
To my amazement the fog housing is only held on by one screw - I wondered why it giggled a bit? Remove the screw and the light will slide out.
The other side is just locked in by a bar system - with no screws, and is the reason for the free play.

i'd go yellow vinyl. i like the look better cause it's yellow even when the light isnt on. and ull get the same amount of brightness if u used a brighter xenon bulb or led if u were to do it in yellow. just get a bright white bulb and vinyl it.
