Factory tint is around 70%.

That is why if and when you get pulled over, you roll down all your windows before the Officer even exits his vehicle.

Ok, going in to get tinted tomorrow morning...

'08 IS-F SGM w/ black interior

Any recs on brand? I've been reading for hours about Huber Optik Ceramic, 3M Crystalline and F1 Pinnacle Carbon being consensus top 3...

Last year, I got pulled over in my old LS400 by a CHP w/ 5% rears and 20% front. Should I even bother risking it on front door windows at all? Maybe 50% Or just go UV/heat layer?

Should I bother w/ getting the moonroof tinted as well?

THANKS!

Huper Optik is on the pricier side, but it does a fine job at UV protection. I wouldn't go too dark with the tint in the front just because you have black interior already. It will appear darker than it really is, which will draw cops' attention. I opted not to have my moonroof tinted just because I need that clarity with the sun shining into the car for my front windows.

20% in the front is a bit excessive. I was pulled over for 35%. 50% would be a good median.

Best of luck!

Just to add I've done a bit digging when I got mine done I have red interior and live in CA.

I tinted mine dark matter tint 20% rear and 40% front love it the heat protection and color is superior from the basic is what my other car has yes it's pricy but also the best mod I have done.

I have about the equivalent of 18% f1 pinnical my biggest complaint of huper was the color it gives from the inside is ugly and it's a very hard tint both to install remove and it's thick making the window motor work harder

Rear windows are at, I believe, 20%

Aftermarket tint for the front windows I got 3M Crystalline 40. I realized after the installation that it has a very slight golden hue to them that's visible when it's bright out. I don't like that there's a slight contrast to just pure black tint of the rear windows (yes, a bit OCD about it). Sometimes I wish I should've gone for 3M Color Stable 35... Nonetheless, it's 40% so it's still a lighter tint so people can still sort of see you from outside but I just didn't wanted to go too dark and become a cop magnet.

It was the priciest option but it does a darn good job in blocking out the heat and whatnot.

I've got my '08 SGM tinted with FormulaOne Pinnacle at 15% front/back. Had it for 4 years now with only getting a ticket once for them. Mine are a bit dark and would probably recommend to go with 20 or 25 at the most. If you don't get the fronts done then I'd say get the moonroof tinted but for me the moonroof stock tint is just fine.
Here's a shot of my car for your reference.

I work at Window Film shop in the Chicagoland area and window film is one of the those things where....you really do get what you pay for.

call ahead to the shop your going to and ask what the warranty on their FILMS and INSTALLATION is!!!!!! VERY important!.

A company might warranty their film and installation differently which is a big red flag! If they only warranty the film 5 years that's telling me that they use a crappy film that in 2-5years it WILL start breaking down and fade/turn purple in color/bubble along defroster lines. If they say that's not true they are lying to you.

The installation warranty is just as important as the film warranty. There shouldn't be crease marks, little silver dots/bubbles, or a big gap at the top of your windows. All signs of a poor quality tint job, and these marks in the window will not "dry out" despite what the shop says.

Basically, do your homework before you go out to get your vehicle tinted. Feel free to ask about their warranties and what brands they offer and which type of film you will be going with and go home to look into the film. many shops are out to just make a buck and will say they installed one film and really used another. Ive seen it countless times!

Joe.

Thanks, everybody for the replies and advice. I went with air 80 on the front windows for heat/uv and 15% on rears/back. The bubbles that were abundant Friday are almost all gone now.

Looking forward to being able to finally roll down my windows tomorrow for the first time since Friday

I doub't the laws are the same out there, but here they are 50% front and 35% all other.

Normally I'd just go 15% all the way around, but the department frowns on us doing that haha
