Default Performance?

I'm getting close to replacing my tires on my 2008 ISF and has stock wheels (19x8F, 19x9R). The following question is mainly targeted for those who have 245s in the front and 275s in the rear. Have you guys noticed any change in performance when it comes to handling especially on hard sharp turns? Correct me if I'm wrong but logically to me, a wider tire on these wheels would result in increased sidewall flexing due to the extra rubber. This would result in diminishing handling performance in my opinion due to some tire-rolling effect. What do you guys think?

I have heard that handling is vastly improved. Another member just came from stock tire sizes and said it's like night and day when cornering. I read the previous posts, someone is actually running 255/285 which is crazy... apparently with no issues. I have stock tire size for now, gonna ride these out and upsize eventually.

I would say that handling, including sharp turns, is improved with 245/275 tires on stock rims. I personally don't feel any sidewall flexing, but I'm also not sure I am good enough to notice if there was just a little flexing vs none. I certainly think that the extra rubber more than makes up for any minimal flexing that may or may not be there. Just don't go trying to put a 295mm tire on the stock 9.0" rim. The biggest difference I noticed when going from the DWS tires to the PSS tires was a crisper turn in.

Overall, I am comparing apples to oranges myself though, since I went from the stock 225/255 Bridgestone tires to 245/275 Continental DWS A/S tires, then went to 245/275 Michelin PSS tires. I haven't tracked the car on the PSS tires, but I do drive some pretty nice twisties on a daily basis and often push it hard since I know every square inch of the road. The 245/275 PSS tires are light years ahead of the 225/255 stock tires.

@Gymkata with the plus size PSS can you see a difference with the gap between the tire and fender? Your sig doesn't say your lowered. I'm looking at this same tire and size I just dont want to add any more gap!

@ VtotheJ, Gymtaka and MisterSkiz thanks for the feedback. I was a little skeptical about wider tires but I guess I was being too detailed and placed too much emphasis on a very minor detail. Have you guys experienced any rubbing when making a full U-turn and any significant change in mpg? I'm really excited about getting 245s/275s PS2s or PSS in the near future

I didn't notice a change in mpg, though I'm sure there is a very minute difference due to increased rolling resistance. Don't get the PS2s unless someone is giving them to you. The PSS is less expensive and performs better. No rubbing at all under any circumstances

I didn't notice a gap difference. The rear tires are a little shorter (-0.4"), but the stock rear height is lower than the front anyway. 245/35R19 is only about 0.3" shorter than the stock 225/40R19 fronts. I don't think it really looks much different...but then again, I am not really focused on gaps. or being flush, or anything like that. Here is how mine looks...different tires than the PSS in the pic, but the same sizes...stock ride height.

I will be purchasing some Michelin PSS this week in 245/275. I have been doing a lot of research whether to go stock or 245/275 but after reading all the post I am going with 245/275

Anyone notice a trend? There are people that come from the AMG and M world over to the F world, but very few leave the F world to go to the AMG or M world...lol

I'd say stay within the stock spec with oem wheels, but a bit wider wouldn't hurt!

hey guys, quick question. ordered some 245/35 front and 275/35 rear pss from tire rack but running into this thread made me do some searching and it seems EVERYONE is running 275+/30 in the rear. is there a reason for that? will the sizes i ordered cause any issues? i still might have time to change my order, please let me know my is-f brethren
