Default Rear speaker volume level very low in IS350C

I have a 2010 IS350C that we just recently purchased used. It has the basic stereo system in it (no upgrades). We noticed that the rear speakers make almost no sound except for what might be described as "surround sound effects".

We took it to the dealer who also thought we had a problem but when they called Lexus Corporate for advice on what to do to fix it, they were told that the rear speakers were likely behaving as designed. That in the IS-C model the rear speakers were especially small and not particularly loud at all.

I am not convinced (and quite frankly the dealer was surprised at the answer they got). Unfortunately, they don't have another IS-C on their lot or in their shop at the moment to do a comparison test against.

Could someone else with an IS-C and basic stereo system tell us if their rear speakers are "normal volume" or what you would say is "very quiet".

Ours aren't even up to the same decibel level as the fronts. It's not like they're just missing bass. They are at a very low volume even with the fader all the way to the rear.

I just got in the back seat of my 2010 IS350C to check my rear speaker volume. I have navigation but not with the ML system. The smaller (tweeter?) speakers in the back didn't have any noticeable sound but the larger speaker was clear. My fade is set to the middle but the sound is predominately coming from the front speakers and the rear is more for fill, but you can certainly hear music clearly from them.

Thanks. I wonder if I should get a second opinion from a different Lexus dealer. I don't necessarily feel like the one I went to this week went to bat for me at all on a couple of things -- and/or they aren't very knowledgeable in certain aspects of the car. (For instance, I asked if they could adjust the sensitivity of the auto-headlight feature and they told me that was not adjustable. I know they are wrong about that. So, did they just not want to mess with it or did they not know? Either way, it's not good).

I certainly would check with another dealer or possibly a car audio specialist.

I had a lot of trouble adjusting my stereo to get the sound I wanted. I'm like you, it sounded like all the music was only coming out of that front center speaker. I don't know what kind of music you listen to, but I listen to hard rock. I found that I get the best sound when I turn off the surround sound.

How do you turn off Surround Sound? I don't see that feature at all on my 2010. Is yours newer? Do you have ML?

Mine is a 2013, no ML.

Hit "Sound", then "DSP" then hit Surround Sound to turn it off.
