Default IS 250/350 convertible - rumors? facts? info?

I hear rumors of an IS 250 and/or 350 hardtop convertible. Anybody know anything concrete? Or just any good gossip? An IS250 hardtop convertible with premium package would be my next car as soon as it came out.

Thanks.

At this point it's really just gossip. I remember reading that there was an official statement by a high position Toyota or Lexus exec, but we have yet to see any plans, spy shots, even drawings at this point. Everything so far is just speculation with actual possibility based on a reliable source's statement.

Edit: Haha I have 666 posts

Gossip, gossip, gossip...

It would be nice to have a hardtop convertible, but Lexus will probably give the SC the hardtop exclusivity. I imagine the IS will be a soft-top convertible, unless if BMW decides to create a hardtop 3-Series. Only then will Lexus budge on that idea.

Bmw just awarded a company named Edscha to do the hard top vert for their e92.
BMW’s next-generation E92 3-series convertible will be launched in March 2007 with a folding hardtop, company insiders told Automotive News Europe. German supplier Edscha will reportedly supply the roof. It will lease a newly-built construction area at BMW’s Regensburg, Germany, plant to produce the three-part roof system. Winning the BMW contract is another boost for Edscha. Edscha also has won the contract for Peugeot’s next coupe-convertible model, the 207CC, due in 2007, industry sources say. BMW is expected to introduce the new cabriolet at the Paris motor show in September 2006. Last year, BMW sold 40,300 units of its E46 3-series convertible worldwide.

The IS coupe is coming with 90% certainity a hardtop covert. The part we are unsure of is the TRICK targa/convert roof ala the LF-C. From my understanding BMW and LEXUS was hard at work trying to be the first with this feature.

Look for the IS coupe/convert to debut alongside the BMW 3 in Geneva next year, just like how the sedan did this year.

Thanks for all the posts.

I don't see Lexus doing a ragtop. My dealer told me that the Mark Levinson people work with Lexus because their cars meet their high standards of quiet that they have to optimize their sound quality. You're never going to get that with a softtop.

I don't think that's a concern. Hardtop or not they're all the same acoustics-wise when the top is down.

The ML system in the SC430 got rave reviews even with its top down, BTW.

Great point. Lexus is about the TOTAL package. Not just one aspect like many carmakers.

no the sedan is the e90, the touring (wagon) is e91, and the coupe will be e92. THe reason i know so much is for the longest time (about 3 months) i wanted to get the 325i. The day before i went to test drive the e90, i found out about the IS 250. I figured wtf ill test drive the lexus figuring i wouldnt like it. Much to my surprise i fell in love with it, and later went to drive the e90 and fell way short of my expectations. Thus i am ordering my IS 250 november 15th, cant wait!

that is good news! so you think both coupe and convert will be released at the same time? or will convert be out later? (not sure how it's normally done...)

i'd like to see a ragtop too, but only if they can keep it relatively neat and quiet

It will be a hardtop convert/coupe. Best of both worlds, ala SC 430. What I am NOT sure of, will it have the trick part, where you can keep it open like a targa as well as drop the top all the way down

DID THE IS 250 SEEM UNDERPOWERED COMPARED TO THE 325?
WAS THE IS250 MORE COMFORTABLE AND QUIETER THAN THE 325?

Having driven both the I250 and the 325, I too think the Lexus engine is more interesting, which surprises me since I've always liked BMW engines a lot. The styling on the 325 is underwhelming and the price seems a bit much. Lexus definitely has a winner...which is why I want that hardtop convertible so bad.
