Default '14 IS Cracked Driver Side Mirror Housing

Hey,

I was reverse parking my IS in the garage, but needless to say clipped by front mirror against the side of the garage opening. As shown in the picture, the entire black bezel that spans the front and bottom of the mirror housing was damaged, and large peices of the matte black surround cracked off. In addition, the turn signal/hazard lens cracked off. However, the silver(body color) painted part of the mirror is perfectly in tact, no damage. Also, all electronic components of the mirror work, incl. power mirrors, bsm, and flood lights, and turn signal. I have been able to find a salvage mirror, the whole thing, incl electronics and glass and housing, just unpainted, for $100. I am sure I will be able to take the hazard lens from the salavage car and transplant it on my current mirror, after some dissassembly off course. However, I am not entirely sure if I will be able to pry the black peice off of the salvage mirror, and transplant that onto my current mirror. If I am able to I may have to use some type of glue on the seems, and on the inside of the mirror hosuing. Note, OEM from lexus the black and body painted parts of housing are together. So does anyone know any tricks on how to safely pry it off, and will I be able to transplant the removed black part of the housing, to the current body painted part of my current mirror housing. It important to note, that when i clipped the mirror on the garage, some oft the black peices cracked off clean from the body parts of the mirror. That would suggest that indeed the black surround part of the frame can be taken apart serpeartley, and they are not permanently fitted together; thus, i could transplant the black part of the frame to my current body painted part of housing.

Any thoughts or advice? Is their a how to on how to disassemble mirrors?

Thanks in advance

Wow. Thank you so much, I am watching it right now. Seems like the cracked internal black peice can be unscrewed, then I just screw in the next one. And the black peice attached to the mirror housing, I should be able to use a heat gun and pry it right from the slavage housing. Then put it on my new one, seperate from the car of course, then glue the seems, with some plastic glue, and silicone the inside. And just put it back together. That makes life simpler. Thanks alot PatrixUSA.
