The steering effort changes even on cars without VGRS and it should feel quite noticeable.

Yep. Non VGRS causes the steering to feel heavier. VGRS goes one step further by changing the steering sensitivity for faster response to input, correct?

I think you're right. My AWD F-Sport definitely has heavier steering in sport+ but the ratios are exactly the same as normal mode (obviously because I don't have VGRS).

Good to know. I have an IS 300 F Sport, and I thought it was in my head that the steering felt heavier in sport. It definitely gets light in Eco as well, but not so much that you would notice it on the highway.
