You should follow your manual when it comes to oil properties. I use 5w30 Castrol magmatic synthetic oil and I cannot go for less than 5w30 in my environment. Additonally I change the oil every 6200 miles. There are big claims in the motor oil industry and many says they are the best and most cannot prove it, so get any good known brand (Mobil, Castrol, Amsoil, Pensoil, Shell etc...) the best ones are the ones synthetic + cheap + as recommended by the manufacturer e.g. 5w30 or 0w20 .
I bought two 5QT Penzoil Platinum 0W-20 at Wal Mart for $24 each, which is cheaper than buying two 1QT bottles because you just need buy one 5QT jug for next oil change. Also, I bought the Fram oil filter for $11. Overall, you're looking at a $60 oil change compared to paying around $90 at the Lexus dealer.
