Default JoeZ Exhaust - Fitment Issues?

Hi Guys, I recently ordered a JoeZ axel back for my 14' 250. My mechanic is telling me that this is exhaust will not fit because the original exhaust has a donut flange. I verified with ModInJapan that this is 100% the correct exhaust. My installer told me because the one i received is flat and not a donut flange that it will not fit. He told me that because it was not correct the exhaust would be loose or eventually fall off. Im getting very tired of figuring this out and I just want to get it installed. Has anyone else ran into this issue before?

What hardware was in the box with the exhaust when you opened it?

All I received was the 2 mufflers and a bag with a few bolts/screws and a sticker.

i've never installed a Joe Z exhaust before, but you probably just remove the donut gasket. the larger piping on the Joe Z should be a larger diameter than the part sticking out on the factory exhaust so the Joe Z should just slip over it. that's my guess.

hopefully your shop doesn't try to reuse the spring bolts either. i'm sure the Joe Z axle back came with new nuts and bolts to secure it on.

Hi Guys...

Yes we sold 100's of these simple axle back systems.. With ZERO fitment issues.
In the bag there is 4 nuts, bolts & washers.
The one washer goes on the OEM flange side. (just in case)

The donut gasket is reused and the small cnc'd bevel on the edge seals on the donut.

Our Flanges are designed to work on our own flat gasket and the oem donut for this application.

If your installer is not comfortable installing this, then research another in your area..
Or let us know and we may recommend one to you.

Regarfs,

Joe Z

not any technical help but just letting you know this exhaust definitely fits. I installed the axleback a couple months ago on my car but a friend did the install so I'm not sure of the details.

while's is certainly unusual to use a flat flange on a donut gasket, you heard it straight from the manufacturer himself...you install it utilizing the factory donut gasket...so just instruct the installer on what to do and they should be able to do it--ANYONE should be able to do it. Install should take about 5 minutes...so simple!!!

The donut presses into the hole..... (Not on the flat area)

Donut -> Hole

My installer thought the same thing, until they tried it, and yup it bolts right up with the oem gasket.

Oh i know what you meant. I wasn't implying that the donut gasket was meant to be smashed and used as a flat gasket haha

What I mean by unusual is that donut gaskets are usually meant to mount up to donut flanges to make a good seal. A "CNC'd bevel on the edge" (which from the OP's picture looks like a 1-2mm edge), mating to a donut gasket seems like a significantly reduced mating area to create a seal.

Typical = flat flange to flat flange utilizing a flat gasket or ring gasket in some OE applications or donut gasket to donut flange.
