2016 IS key fob feel cheap when comparing to 2014 version
Minor rant
I don't know if my dealer screw me over or is this how OEM key fob really does look like for 2016 model but it look extremely cheap when comparing to 2014 version. Base on the picture, 2014 got this premium leather alligator skin look to it body cover while 2016 is extremely plasticky and cheap looking 😡
i don't know if I can still go to the dealer and buy a 2014 OEM fob and have it work on my 2016 car or not

Simple solution....get the key fob covers and be done with it. I have the same key fob for my '15 IS 250 F Sport and it is not an issue once you have the covers on them. In addition, I very rarely use my key fob due to the remote entry function for the doors and trunk.

Personally, it is not a concern as I always put the key fob in some key cover/key case. But I agree the finish of the key fob for 2016 IS doesn't as durable as 2014's.

AFAIK you can still buy the card key online and either program it yourself in 5 minutes (see Toyota TechStream) or have the dealer do it for an outrageous $75 or so.
The reason some dealers may have 'discontinued' selling the card keys is that folks aren't stupid enough to pay them the retail price of the key plus programming.
