Default Talked to lexus fts/engineer guy about is200t f sport exu

So today was at dealer and i asked the lexus engineer guy and i told him about what he thinks about plugging in a chip for the ecu? The chip has a 40-50hp+ for is200t 16. He said the car wouldn't handled it because the is200t its already at its max hp+. Engine so small it can't handle that extra 40hp+.

I find it hard to believe that Toyota took everything off the table when they turbo'd the engine

I don't think that "engineer" knows what he is talking about. Car manufacturers do not max out their engine's hp for production vehicles. They would risk them blowing up all the time.

I ran almost 200 more hp than stock on my stock internals Mitsubishi Eclipse.

When you say engineer do you mean on of their service guys? I doubt an actual engineer for Toyota/Lexus would be at a dealership.

A little bit off topic but I was wondering if you want more hp, why didn't get the 350 in the first place and avoid a lot of hassle imo

Well.. 200t is cheaper, more mpg, looks the same, tuning potential to be the same speed as stock 350.

I understand what you are saying. WAAAY back in my day I did a lot of drag racing. It isn't about having the fastest car but about having the fastest car in it's class.

The factory IS200t F Sport boost gauge reads a peak 14 psi from the turbo, from what I can remember.

All factory turbo vehicles are tuned very, very conservatively to promote longevity and reliability.

Similar to the 1.8T and 2.0T from Audi/VW, I am sure these factory turbos could handle another ~5-6 psi, peaking at about ~20-21 psi. Once the ECU is cracked and a tuner programs a more aggressive map (like APR/GIAC/etc did for Audi/VW), I would imagine another 30whp is possible.

So after getting the ECU and tuning, it will run another $1500. The 350 comes with more HP than that and comes with the one option that the 200t can't get which is the only performance feature that the FSport comes with which is AVS. Sounds like the 350 is actually the much better deal vs a modded 200t

Im not sure where youre getting $1500 for a tune, but any other company charges ~$599-$799 at most.

A tune + turbo back exhaust + intake would put the IS200t in the same neighborhood as the IS350 in terms of performance. We just dont know the costs yet as products are being developed.

$800 for the tune with ECU at $500-700. May be a little high but the 350 is still way better for the price. The 200t is a bad deal if you want 350 performance. It's faaaar better to just get the 350

Are you implying you have to buy an extra ECU?

Tuning companies today either reflash your ECU at a location, or you can ship it out to be programmed or you can purchase a flash loader and do it at home.

Either way I think your figures are off, but we'll see what the prices actually come out to be in the near future.

Sorry. I meant an extra chip. Maybe that was a little high. Perhaps $300 like you can get with a VW. The 200t is laggy though. You'd may need the whole shebang (intake, exhaust, tune, chip) to get to 350 levels. Is that worth it when you can just get a 350 with the awesome throttle response and AVS for about the same price?
