Default My 2014 IS 250 was broken into last night

Nothing was stolen and doesn't appear to be any forced entry.

They opened up the glove compartment and center console and just dumped everything into the passenger seat. Luckily I don't keep anything of any value.

I don't remember locking the door as I carried in groceries when I got home. However, I did check the auto lock setting and it's suppose to lock after 30 seconds.

I tested it out this morning. Walked away from the car with the keyfob and came back. I saw that the doors never locked. I scheduled an appointment with Lexus to check it out tomorrow, but has anyone else noticed any problems with this "auto-lock" feature?

I thought auto lock feature was if you unlocked the doors but do not enter the car, they auto lock after 30 seconds

Correct. It only auto locks if the car was unlocked and no one opens a door.

Unfortunately not. Come to think of it, I haven't come across a car that does auto lock.

My 2010 toyota corrolla s did that. It'd auto lock when I stepped out of the car and forgot to lock it. I remember cause I'd run out to my car numerous times to lock it but was already locked.

I realized our lexus didn't do that when I tested this out one day and waited the 30 sec after stepping out to see if it would lock. Sorry to hear our society has scumbags and we can't just have trust in one another. Least nothing of value was taken.

Also be aware about the high-tech thieves who may have the electronic device which is capable of unlocking the car. In a nutshell, the car thinks the keyfob was being used and therefore, can gain free entry into the vehicle without any suspicions.

The feature you're talking about (locking after getting out of the car) was removed because people would leave their kids in cars without escape and strangers couldn't open the door to help in case of emergency.
This also applies to pets, the elderly, and disabled.

Instead of being hit with a lawsuit, car makers stopped auto locking after leaving the car.

No sources to show, just from memory.

Enform will show that your car is unlocked. Then, it will also tell you whether it's a door or window that is open. In this case, it would have told the owner that the vehicle was unlocked.

Glad to hear that nothing was stolen! Just remember to lock your vehicle every time! Like someone else mentioned, just place your thumb on the driver's handle and it will lock!
