Hey guys in need of some advice. after 2 1/2 years of ownership its finally time for my 20k service. I know very well the dealer will rip me off if i go with their recommended service. Basically what i think needs to be done is...

Replace oil and oil filter
Replace AC Filter
Replace cabin filter

Please feel free to correct me here if I'm wrong. Dealer recommended service says they check ball joints etc which i really don't think i need as the car is still new. but want to know what you guys think. that service is like $283 lol..

would i be better off just doing an oil change and calling it a day?

Usually every 10K miles will be a "major" maintenance. So the dealer will check everything including the nav system, AC, oil, and all the other technology.

I mean, its recommended to do so, and yes its roughly $250+ for that service, when compared to just routine oil change for ~$100.

If this is a purchased car, and you plan to keep it for a long time, then I would say just do it.

I would just ask for the oil change. You can order and install your air filters for MUCH MUCH MUCH less!

I go to toyota for my synthetic oil changes. $40 for the oil change and they do a basic inspection (brake pads, tires, fill windshield wiper fluid)

I order my air filters on amazon or ebay and replace them myself. Sure makes up for the 93 octane I have to pay for!

Remember, this isn't a high end Porsche...

I had my brake fluid flushed when the manual said to and I'll change spark plugs when it says to.

$283 is expensive....

Audi wanted $550-$750 (3 different dealer quotes) for my 15K which was basically an oil and filters change, or I could buy the pre-paid maintenance package which covered to 45K miles for $850 which brought the average down to around $215. Yes, basically they "force" you to buy the package if you want dealer maintenance.

I had them change the oil/filter and inspect the brake pads & fluid levels. $87

I ordered and changed my own filters.

Thanks for the advice guys. The car is financed so I am keeping it. But yeah I will take the advice and have the dealer change my oil. And I will change the cabin and A/C filter myself.

Can anyone provide a link on where they bought their lexus cabin and A/C filters from?
Also a link to DIY? I mean I know its not hard but ive never changed them before

Lexus dealer wanted roughly about $150 for my 20k while my local Toyota shop would do it for roughly $60. Save myself $90!

That's true. If you find yourself a Toyota dealer willing to do maintenance they can do it for a lot less. Toyota & Lexus are very much the same when it comes to maintenance.

Like everyone here said, save yourself some money and buy the oil filter online. I purchased a pack of 10 oil filters for dirt cheap on ebay, the oil filter part number is 04152-y22A5 and i believe its a genuine toyota part number, my car is a 2014 350 f sport awd. I would call toyota and confirm the part number. When i initially called lexus to ask them what the oil filter part numbers were they refused to tell me which is why i never bring my car to lexus for service because they lack in the customer service department. In regards to the cabin filters and engine air filters i purchased them on ebay for around 12$ for each and it was easy to install, youtube it and it will take you no more than 5 minutes to replace it. And do your own oil change if you can, but what i did was i purchased mobil 1 full synthetic oil 0w20 from walmart for cheap, you need to buy 6.6 qts of oil and plus go on mobil1.com website they constantly offer online rebates and you can save up to 15$ On engine oil. What i do is i purchased my own oil and oil filter and bring it to toyota and have them do my oil change for 20$ and occasionally toyota has coupons too so sign up for their mailing list and look online for coupons too. You will save big bucks in the long run. Your welcome!!!

__ Brake lines and hoses
__ Brake rotor thickness and runout
__ Engine coolant (see page 69)
__ Exhaust pipes and mountings
__ Front differential oil (IS 350 AWD)
__ Fuel lines and connections, fuel tank band and fuel tank vapor vent system hoses
__ Fuel tank cap gasket
__ Rack-and-pinion assembly
__ Rear differential oil
__ Steering linkage and boots
__ Transfer case for signs of leakage (IS 350 AWD)
__ Transmission for signs of leakage
__ Wiper blades

if you drive primarily under this special operating condition, perform these additional items:
Driving on dirt roads or on dusty roads:

By the way - resetting the maintenance light/reminder - is it something that a normal auto repair shop (independent mechanic) can do or you need a dealer for that?
