Default Optimal PSI to help prevent bent rim?

Just curious if anyone has any input on this. Have 19 inch rims now and was wondering whats the "optimal" psi for them. Heard higher psi helps prevent bent rims too. Is this true? Appreciate the feedback

I keep mine around 37-38. no issues.

Don't think so but fronts 35 and rear 38.

Not sure the size of your tires but years ago back when i had 20's on my 2is. A tire shop told me to avoid bent rims was to purchase tires with a stiff sidewall. The stiffer the sidewall the better.

that makes a lot of sense. good advice. stiff sidewall and good amount of tire pressure should be adequate enough...along with pothole avoidance.

Higher psi do avoid bent rims. I keep my tires 5psi less than max psi. (Ex: max on tire is 45psi, i run 40psi). Never bent rims ever. Running 35 psi on low profile tires will def give u ben rims. Lol

thanks for the responses guys! I currently have continental DWS06 tires 235 in the front 265 in the back. does anyone know if continental sidewalls are stiff? I know thye're good tires. but 19 inch rims are obviously more prone to bending no matter what tire or psi you have. The max psi is 51. so if I go by what jkhang says ill have to have 46psi cold.

Would that cause uneven wear where only the middle of the tires would wear down quicker? or over inflation? i heard too much psi can cause less handling or grip. I like the idea of protecting my new rims as much as possible so thanks for all the input guys.

i have 19s also, running at 35psi in the front, and 38-39 in the rear!

I'm running 37-38 PSI all the way around. I'm on 19's.

Can't remember where I read this but general rule of thumb was 4 to 5 psi below max rating foe tire. The other 'rule' was taking what the manufacturer psi is on the door and adding max psi rating for the tire divided by 2. Example for me is (36+49)/2=42.5 psi

I have 40 PSI all around. If you have 30 or 35 sidewalls then I recommend going for 42 PSI for low profile tires. The front on car is pretty heavy so it'll look like it's lower than the rear. Not all wheels weighs the same so you need to check to see what suits your car the best.

Got 30 and 35s as well, going to top up from 40 to 42, handles pot holes better foe sure (hard thud is gone as it is better cushioned now and surprisingly ride quality didn't suffer.

From what I've read Conti's do have softer sidewalls. I noticed when I ran a higher psi on my Conti's, the ride did suffer and was harsher.

thanks for all the feedback guys! so many different opinions lmao. i think ill try 42 all around and see how that goes. i was running 38 all around when i first got the set up and it felt under inflated. the car was dragging almost. right now at 40 and its a bit better. will try 42
