Default 1st Drive....and I take a rock to the front bumper

Driving 1-85 from Greenville SC to ATL... Loving the heck out of my new IS350F, when "doink"... a mystery rock chips my front right bumper....one of the few places I don't have the 3M film. The chip is about the size of a 10 penny nail head. I have ordered the Dr.Colorchip repair kit to try and fix it myself. Anyone out there in CL land had any experience with this product??

Yea - I know your pain. I had a rock come and hit the metal area above my front windshield where the windshield and body meet exposing the metal under the paint. I just went to Lexus dealer and purchased their touch-up paint. Also had someone there do it for me.

Similar things happened here...but it was my windshield.
A rock hit it while I was driving the brand new car back home on the freeway

What was the process for putting on touch up paint? Use cleaner, wipe dry, primer x 2, paint/clear coat x 3, I assume?

They actually didn't feel the need to prime it, i was expecting them to. My guess is there wasn't enough damage that the original primer was still on the metal. They did paint then apply clear coat since I have the UW. The guy that applied it turned out to be the owner of the body shop that the Annapolis Lexus dealer used so I trusted he knew what he was doing. Only downside to the touch-up paint is on white, the clear coat turns yellow-ish

dr. colorchip is really amazing. i've used it on matador red mica, atomic silver, and starfire pearl and they all came out better looking than the chips i touched up using the oem touch-up paint.

That sucks man. I live in Texas and there's always construction. There's also lifted trucks everywhere with mud all over who like to cut you off. So rock chips are inevitable for me. 2 weeks after getting the car, I got my first chips on the front bumper. Like speedneed, I went to the Lexus dealer and purchased the touch up pen. It doesn't completely hide where the chips were, but it looks a lot better than before.

Lol you should see the front bumper of my IS350. It has rock chips all over. I wish i got a clear bra but they told me at this point I'd need a whole new paint job to not have those weird little bumps from the rock chips. They said the best time to get it is when the car is first bought. I'm thinking about trying thr dr.colorchip too.

Slap on a clear bra on that bad boy asap. It's worth it! Don't let the cost scare you.
