The new B58 motor (N55 replacement) seems to be very nice, great power (see dyno sheets) still has the nice inline 6 sounds, and good gas mileage.

Personally, I think the 3 series is due for an update. I would rather move forward than backwards in that respect. I think the chassis is better on the IS, ATS, and probably the new Jaguar XE and Audi A4. I would at least recommend checking out those before you make a move.

Good luck!
Coming from an E46 330i, I was very impressed with the IS over the current 3 series. The M2 is the best driving car in the BMW stable and their engines and transmissions are IMHO ahead of the competition. Good luck with what you decide.

I came from the n54 inline 6 twin turbo 2009 335i. Loved the car and its performance was definitely quicker than the IS 350. After the 09 model they changed the engine to the n55 and who knows where BMW is now with all the new EPA regulations. Each loaner car I got while my BMW was getting serviced, I liked less and less.

I am happy I made the switch though because I blew an injector in the BMW the week my CPO warranty was ending. Dodged a $2800 repair bill by 4 days.

BMW's are about performance and they sacrifice a lot to attain it. If you want an amazing performance car you'll have to sacrifice reliability and maybe some comfort. Remember the E60 M5 was and still is to the best of my knowledge the fastest sedan on the planet topping out at 205. But it has a fatal engine flaw that could cause the engine to blow its rod bearing at as little as 50k miles. My point is to archive performance something must be sacrificed. F1 engines only last 500 miles but achieve incredible performance. Lexus is on the other end they sacrifice some performance for reliability. If every car was perfect, then cars would become boring; their flaws are what make them interesting.

340i is a better overall ride than the is350 f sport. I have a 2016 is350 and the styling is stunning and different 340i is more expensive and the engine is pretty awesome compared to the is350 which is now outdated. Styling wise is just too different so hard to compare that

Think about it... When are your really going to use 300+ HP.. Unless you track it.

In real world, I would choose the Lexus (not being basis here).

The Lexus reliability, ease of maintenance, and stand-out styling is a plus over the BMW.

Interior wise - You won't go wrong with either. I honestly think the BMW interior looks better. But meh, more or less the same luxury feel.

Price - Bang for your bunk, imo would be the Lexus.

I test drove a new 340i with the Msport and track package. I really like the car. I don't like how cramped I feel in the IS350, it felt like there was so much more room in the drivers seat and also in the back seats. I really liked the power of the 340i too. I do prefer the interior of my Lexus though, that's where the BMW was lacking in my opinion.

If I can find someone to buy my car or take over my lease, I will probably get the 340.
You can list your car on swapalease or craigslist for someone to take over your lease. The good thing about Lexus is that the lease transfer is 100% liability transfer to the new owner. I transferred my lease over to the new owner and it took about a month if you overnight the paperwork back and forth.

I'm going to post my car on swapalease later on today and hope it goes pretty quick. Might even add an incentive.

Then what's the point in getting the 350 when a 250 or 200t would be good enough

For all those that keep saying the 2GR is outdated, keep in mind that Toyota makes incremental improvements without changing the engine's base name. The Germans rename the whole engine with every change.

The 4GR in the 250 had its piston rings redesigned with different materials and tighter tolerances in 2012, but kept the same model number.

The new A4 is a way more techonologly advanced compared to Lexus and BMW! Virtual cockpit, driving assistance in traffic jam w stop and go, the HD navigation screen, the rear view and 360 camera is so much better quality... But the engine w 257hp competes well with is300 and 328, but I suspect when S4 comes out it'll be a serious contender to 340, and Lexus maybe left behind unless the revamp the engine 350 and techonology.
