Just looking for some inputs, found this article and shttt, I'm not a fan boy or anything, but the M2 is a beauty..

Historically, Lexus has never competed well with BMW's M class cars. But it doesn't need to. Each company has carved out its niche in the luxury segment (Lexus being comfort & reliability, and BMW being sports-heritage and performance).

It is definitely a nice looking car though, hopefully I can drive one soon.

The M2 is basically a track car. That's it's primary focus and BMW went so far as to strip out much of the sound deadening in order to shed what they deemed unnecessary weight. Reviewers have noted how noisy the car is. I'm sure it's a blast to drive but wouldn't be a suitable daily driver for normal people. I bet it'll carve out a small niche market for itself though.

Don't do the comparison, you'll only wish you had bought a M2 :P

Im curious on how everyone perceives each brand

Luxury:
Lexus - comfort/reliability
BMW - Performance
BENZ - ?
Audi - stylish?, performance?

I read the article, and then I was like shttt, this thing starts at ~50k? Thats like the price of my is350..

However, with all the option that you might want to add, it may well be a 60k car..

Then again, I went with Lexus because of reliability.

How do they not compete? Lexus has F division for a reason. I'm sure if Lexus came out with another IS F, it would most likely compete with the M2.

RC F > M3, M4
GS F > M5

Thats what I'm thinkin.

Lexus- I think its reliability for sure, hint of luxury and performance
BMW - Performance and luxury
Benz - too luxurious, poor reliability, pretty good performance, I would never want to own one tho
Audi - I guess you can say its the mix of everything. The reliability of Audi has gone up, performance is decent, styling...looks all the same.

I'm not saying they don't compete with the M's, I'm saying they don't compete well. What happened to the ISF? Not enough sales... whereas its competitor, the M3, has been around for 30+ years.

Which means Lexus needs to do a better job with its performance division. In 2015/2016 Mercedes has struck a great balance between luxury interiors and performance engines...almost like a BMW and a Lexus had a baby. Lexus could have (and should have) filled that niche years ago.

There's always a fine line between performance and luxury. I think very very few companies have that down. You always hear the saying, "always lease, never own a BMW" or "maintenance on a BMW is terrible". You never hear that with a Lexus.

..but you also hear "Lexus will never performance as well as a BMW". Everyone has their market and market segment. I think Lexus is doing just fine with their current lineup strategy (though they really need to refresh their 2GRE-FSE engines).

Although M2 is probably the best performance for your buck, I would never buy a BMW solely because of its reliability. I had several BMW's and each of them had some sort of engine problem. Mercedes actually does better in reliability. This car would be a great lease for sure or a dedicated track car..
