Default Window Tint at Lexus Dealer?

Hi everyone,

I'm shopping for a 2014 or 15 IS, and I found one that I'm interested in. However, on the CARFAX, it shows that when the car was sold brand new, the Lexus dealer installed a window tint. The dealership is about 4 hours away, and they do not have photos of the car up yet. But, the salesperson sent me a photo of the car in their shop and said it was very minimal. I looked at the photo and it was hard to tell. Do all IS models have a window tint installed when they're new? I do not want a window tint aside from what comes with the car. This is a deal breaker for me.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks!

There is factory tint installed on all of the cars. Check out Sango's post #41 in this thread for the specs, the second image.

Thank you for this information!

However, I have never seen the tint installation listed on a CARFAX before. Makes me scared to think it's going to be too dark. If it's done at the factory, wouldn't a dealer installed tint be in addition to the factory tint?

Here is the photo they sent me. Does this look "factory"?

That's what it sounds like. Why would a dealer install tint if factory tint is already on the car? It sounds like it's additional. Your photo looks like factory tint. I would verify with them what they mean by "dealer installed tint" to be sure.

The dealer didn't say anything about it but I agree in that light it looks factory. Here's a screenshot of the CARFAX that mentions the tint installation.

A rep at my dealership said that this tint installation is additional and is done at the request of the customer.

Thank you for your help. Did your dealership rep say anything else about this? Is it pretty dark? In the photo I posted it's hard to tell how dark it really is.

I'm sure they do a "tint and protection package". It's something some dealers add on during the pre-delivery inspections. It's basically a product used to mark up the car. Ask them if they will waive the fee and/or remove it

The factory does not install tint. The windows are slightly tinted from the glass manufacturer, but its built into the glass, not on the surface. If there is "extra" tinting installed it would be from a 3rd party. I wouldn't have a 3rd party touch my Lexus. Do you really need the extra tint?? If so, get it professionally done by someone you can trust. Tinting can make a mess during install or even worse removal.

From the pic, it looks like factory tint. It has a slight green/bronze hue. Look at the service area wall through the rear window and you will see the tint, appears like the front side window is down. Outside rear view mirrors also have the greenish/bronze color tint, its very subtle.

I received some additional pics of the car, and it appears there is some tint on the vehicle. How much would a tint shop charge to remove it? I know it can be done at home, but I'm afraid to.

Also, any chance they tinted the windshield too?
