Default Extended Lexus Warranty Worth It?

hi kids,

so i purchased a CPO '14 IS 250 a month or so ago and it came with the 3 year/100k mile warranty. i know lexus is going through some restructuring of the l/certified program which doesn't benefit the consumer much at all.

anyhow, i was presented with extended warranty options but declined them at the time with the full intention of purchasing at a later date. now i'm doubting myself.

backstory: i have another '14 IS 250 that i purchased new and that has an extended service contract. the car has 15k miles on it and it hasn't had any problems. i had a '08 IS 250 and i also had an extended warranty on that car that i had to use quite a bit.

i would think lexus would have ironed out the wrinkles in the drivetrain as the car has the carryover six cylinder, six-speed automatic, but the electronics are new to the generation.

what are your opinions? yea? nay?

Thus extended warranties aren't necessary for Lexus.
thanks for the input, xperia. the 2IS is a really good looking car with a timeless, elegant design. i hope the 3IS ages just as well.

as for the warranty, i guess my feelings are mixed because i've had one 3IS for two years now without a single issue but owned a 2IS previously with a whole ton of issues.

You will probably never have an issue with the 3IS but that one day you do somehow, you're going to be glad you got the extended warranty. It's peace of mind. Everyone says that when you buy a warranty nothing ever goes wrong.. Well I mean that's exactly what I want.

Most Toyota/Lexus in my area offer an extended warranty refund program (either directly or via third-party insurance agencies). If you don't use the coverage, you get a full refund of the warranty cost. YMMV.

yeah, the dealership explained that to me which was/is a nice perk. i had known about it, though, via my previous extended warranties on lexus cars.

Any one know if I am able to buy the extended warranty after. I have a 14 IS350 that I bought from a Toyota dealership and I got this stupid Zurich extended warranty that just makes my life miserable. I had the Lexus extended warranty for my 08 2IS, and it payed for itself like 3 times over.

yeah, as long as you are within the manufacturer's warranty period, i.e., 50k miles or 4 years, whichever comes first. if you have past the factory warranty period, then no, you're stuck with third-party options.
