Why does some people buy IS250 instead of IS350?

IS250 was phased out with the 2016 model year. If you're looking at used or a still new 2015 model then maybe some reasons to go for the IS250 is lower cost or possibly don't have the need or want for a more powerful car. Both cruise down the highway at 80mph just the same .

a fully outfitted IS 250 with the luxury package and all available options can cost just as much as a 350 that's not as well-equipped. i own one such model.
i also own another base 250 that we liked enough and fit well within our budget. the 250 gets a lot of undeserved hate; it's a peppy car to drive around the city in.

IS250 is a nice car but for me personally I would hate to own a car that looks as sporty on the outside but has trouble keeping up with most of the ordinary sedans on the road. It feels like a poseur car to me, all the show and none of the go. The difference in performance isnt even close, it is substantial. IS350 is by no means a fast car but getting anything slower with that body style is just......meh.

agreed. it is a nice car for daily errands and it fulfills the needs of a number of drivers who aren't particularly interested in the quickest 0-60 times, but who still want a luxurious experience with nimble handling and whatnot.
i can see how a base is250 would seem lackluster, although owning a fully spec-ed is250 with the luxury package and all available options, the entire driving experience is changed and the car doesn't seem as bottom-of-the-barrelesque by any means as the former would to some.
i'm a bit unique in that i own and thus have experienced both ends of the non-f-sport is250 -- a limitedly-equipped base model with navigation and a few other perks and a fully outfitted model with a whole slew of options and perks. night and day.

I had a 2011 IS250
y wife drove it about as much as I did - she LOVED it - mostly around the city but we did many highway trips with it and to be honest it was a beautiful highway car, comfortable and plenty powerful.
I now have an IS350 and my wife drives it a lot less - but she doesn;t notice and difference in power because of the way she drives - she doesn't like to ever hear the engine and tries to keep the ECO light on as much as possible.
I wouldn't dis the IS250 - it is a great car and 206 HP is not really that bad.
