Default 2014 IS 350 F Sport - Dallas *Windshield Cracked*

Hi All,

I was driving on 635 and my windshield hit an rock chip. it was an small rock chip and overnight it became an huge crack..

here is the thing, my insurance deductible is $500.00.. I think i need to replace my windshield, no rain sensor, no heat either.

The quotes i been getting are all around $750, $699-ish

i called Park Place Grapevine and they said they don't replace windshields..i ask them if Plano does, they said no either..

I am calling Sewell tomorrow.. if they replace or not.

Can you suggest me a good windshield replacement people in dallas or should i just claim insurance? if i claim insurance does it raise my premium next year?

I own and honda before and replacement only cost like $250~300.. not sure why LEXUS cost $750.00 and it is also after market.

I just replaced my windshield a couple weeks back. it was a small crack that was unfix-able at first so I had the crack untreated for about 10 months until it actually went across from the passenger side to the driver side I did the replacement at a different shop because the shop my dealer referred to me quoted me $1,200 for parts and labor. I've asked around and they're quoting me around $900-$1100. Luckily i was covered by insurance so seeing that you're getting around $700 seems pretty fair to me. I live in Seattle and i drive the same model as you do.

Will your insurance company waive the deductible? They do in Florida and in a number of other states. Be sure to ask.

Florida is luckily 1 of 5 states that waive the deductible on front windshields. I'm pretty sure Texas is not one of those states, but the OP should definitely find out.

I had my windshield replaced with a $500 deductible once back around April. The actual cost for the glass+labor came out to around $1100. 3 Months later my windshield cracked again and I just left it for the time being because I didn't want to shell out another $500. And the glass for newer, luxury cars will definitely cost you more than your Honda. I had a Toyota before and it only cost me $200 back then.

I had multiple cracked windshields on my IS350 (so annoyed cause I wasn't even 3 car lengths behind the car). Anyways, I went to Sewell's Collision Center near Sewell Lexus that replaced the windshield with an OEM version however the cost for the windshield with labor cost me $1400 ($500 deductible, Geico covered only $400, I paid the difference of $500). That was the last time I was going OEM since I had it replaced with OEM twice. The third and last time I got a crack I went with Safelite, there isn't a difference and I only paid a $50 deductible that time.

Ask your agent about the effect of a claim on your premium.
Consider a different carrier. $500 deductible for windshield is ridiculous, as your situation illustrates. That is effectively no coverage.

I filed a claim with the insurance company, stated I wanted OEM glass, and paid $15 out of pocket for a $1.5k Lexus windshield.

I checked around the area, 2014 IS350 windshield is around $645 ea for replacement.. claiming insurance is no go because it will have record, so most likely i would pay out of pocket =(

I checked, no luck.. 2014 seems to be using more expensive glass?

No, that's what $650 is what the part should cost, it's just the installer in my area love to charge a premium on factory windshield and install. 1.5K was the cheapest I could find it for with installation, the highest I was quoted was 4k from the dealer I purchased my car from. I didn't know the part cost when I was looking for a replacement until after I installed mine, but you can use that knowledge as leverage to drive down the total cost of replacing your windshield.
