Re: IS200T Acceleration
Hi,
I am a long time reader first time poster. I recently bought a new IS200T FSport, and I had a lot of a fun with the car. But today I encountered a strange situation.
It was a rainy night, there was, I think a Chevy Silverado (Not 100% sure), but I accelerated so I could pass him to make a right turn. I had already had mine in sport mode, he started to accelerate, but as we reached the light he was one wheel length ahead of me.
We tried for a second time, this time it was closer, but I feel cause the car is rear-wheel drive and cause it was also raining I dont think I could have won, but would I have if it wasnt raining ...?
Im not totally sure, so I was just wondering what you guys think ....?

Were you starting from a stop? If so, no surprises due to the initial lag. My IS250 beats my NX 200t (same engine as your IS) for the first 50 m but the NX overtakes it afterwards...
In addition, if the Chevy was AWD, he might have also had better traction in the rain compared to yours. If the TCS was inhibiting power on your car though (which is possible), you would have seen the orange light flickering on the dash.

Is this a joke? Like honestly....
The IS200T is for the person who wants to "think" they are fast, but needs to know you're NOT. Its a 2.0T. Its for efficiency with a little bit of power.
A Silverado is a V8 (probably a 5.3L) making 350hp (unless he has a 6.2L, which is good for 420hp). While he weighs more, he has a metric s*(%ton more torque and better gearing. Furthermore, being NA, he has torque on demand, as compared to you waiting for boost to come up.
Don't make the IS200T more than it is. A slow family sedan. Furthermore...who races a truck? *rolling eyes*

Swacer, be nice - we give the benefit of the doubt to the OP...
What you're saying and I agree is the massive Torque = instant takeoff/response which the 2L Turbo does not have. The OP may simply not know how powerful and quick these trucks have become today.

Given that the motor is probably under similar tuning as my NX, the motor is very lazy on boost as it constantly tries to lug itself and use the turbo for support rather than power.
Personally, I would probably have been put to sleep with a IS200T, its a little more understandable with a SUV.

after doing some research on the chevy silverado's horsepower, torque, and 0-60.. nope, i don't think you'll ever be able to beat it lol. the is200t really isn't that great.

It seems every 2.0T car in this segment beats the IS200t. Even the A4 which is heavier, albeit awd, beats it.
Toyota did not make this into sports sedan, instead it made it into a 'looks fast' for everyday drivers.
Toyota could have made the 200t into a great car!

Well I waited for the 2.0T on the IS because it would be faster and have better economy over the is250. Yes I could have bought the IS350, I know that is a really fast car (on your typical suburban drive anyway), but I think its just too fast and I know I wont end up using all the power thats why I settled for the IS200T. For the same price. I could have bought an STI if I wanted fast.
I just thought the improvement for this IS would be enough, I am a little disappointed but I dont regret buying it. I just wanted to ask you guys cause this car is still really new and maybe there were some tricks in the car I didnt take advantage of.
And yeah, I had had traction control on, but I think if I turned it off I would have swerved or something due to the rain?
P.S. I did not race the guy on purpose, but I thought that truck would be a good benchmark to test acceleration since the guy started revving anyway

I think people generally underestimate when they could use that extra oomph to run away from those pesky trucks at stoplights.
The Is350 isn't fast but at least it's not slow. It's at best average speed.
