Default Wrecked the rear deck (lid) on 2014

Well, after years of parking away from other cars at malls and being so careful -- I have inflicted damage on my car. The garage door came down while I was backing up. Maybe you folks could give me an idea as to how much it'll cost to fix it? I'm wondering if it would be best to buy a new lid. Or can this be repaired? If I bought a new lid -- where would I go to buy it. None to be found via Google search. It looks far worse in the day. Is it worth filing an insurance claim? Any helpful feedback will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

That's a thought. I found this on eBay --

You can try a scrap yard too.

www.car-part.com lets you search all scrap yards across north america. It is very easy to use and you never know you might get lucky and find one that has the right colour lid already and you can just bolt it on (swap the key cylinder though) and be done with it.

But your existing lid is beyond repair.

I highly doubt that any scrap yards would carry a 2014+ IS trunk lid.

Thanks! Admittedly, it looks bad in pics but why would you say it's beyond repair. It looks like it could be popped out. Either way, it seems I've found my trunk lid here, http://www.ebay.com/itm/14-LEXUS-IS250-F-SPORT-AWD-TRUNK-LID-COVER-LIFT-GATE-ASSEMBLY-REAR-GRAY-/291527512975?fits=Year%3A2014%7CMake%3ALexus&hash=item43e064d38f&vxp=mtr.

I wonder how they arrived at that price? Is it fair?

Well it is hard to judge by pictures and I'm no expert but from my own experience it appears to be too deep and one picture makes it look as if there is a small crease... But some dent guys can work miracles..

I think the price is fair considering it is already the right color.. No painting require.. Just have to move your parts over to it and bolt it on.. Probably take a couple of hours to do.

Thanks Brendan. If I remember correctly we lost Sewell. It seems that I can order online a brand new lid with rear view camera from Lexus of Cherry Hill, NJ, for $608.00 - $200 off, http://parts.lexusofcherryhill.com/p...0153071B4.html

Can buy the trunk lid separate or with al the external stuff, http://parts.lexusofcherryhill.com/a...M/8916595.html

Glashub, sorry for the mishap. It happened to my CT way back and scraped the front grille.

As for the damage, the top looks perfectly smooth and straight while the damage seems limited only to the facade of the trunk lip. A reputable car shop (I've used Carstar with good results) will pop it out, fill in any small imperfections, sand, and repaint only the facade and blend it to the sides and top so it looks seamless.

My feeling is no more than 300$ for the repair and the route I'd go personally.

Good luck.

I would go to a reputable paintless dent removal place to have it popped out. Doesn't look to have any sharp creases so it should be relatively easy for them to pop it out.

Thanks so much for you help. You're right -- it's hard to tell from pictures. The daylight pics make it look so bad because of the way the glossy paint reflects. The night pictures make it look like it could pop out. I'm taking it to a shop today.

@corradoMR2 -- always good to see your name pop up.

Got an estimate of about $1000 from a body shop that actually fixed another ding for free about a month ago. I kind of trust them. They are going to fix it. Their rationale is that if I order a salvaged part I won't know if the color will match (they go by VIN now), and I won't know if the salvaged piece had been torqued even a little during an accident. They think it's best to fix what I have and they think they can do it right. They are the sole body shop for Robertson Honda so I have to think they can do the job. Used lid in the same color on eBay is $699.00 but then you need the trunk gasket and other things too.

To be honest I don't like hearing the words 'they think they can' ..

That doesn't leave me with confidence. Just make sure they aren't going to bondo the crap out of it..
