Rock chip on window repair
Hey guys. Driving on 710 in La. Hit a rock on the window. Looks pretty small. 5 min later from driving on S+ and lowered on springs, it spread to the top and also around my rear mirror area. What are best solution to prevent it from spreading? Anything info will help. Thanks in advance.

Sadly, I'm fairly confident there isn't anything you can do. It will continue to spread even if you don't drive it from the expansion and contraction caused by ambient temperature changes. I've been told that rock chips can only be repaired prior to any spidering from the point of impact.
Probably need to get it replaced asap under comp and collision coverage and opt for oem glass if they'll cover it.

I actually had a crack repaired recently, it isn't perfect but it is much less noticeable. He drilled a small hole at the end (similar to a chip) then he filled that so it keeps from spreading. I had to leave so I didn't see how he did the crack. Mine was the first customer windshield he did a crack repair on so it's fairly new technology and might not be available where you live, where I live rock chips are so common pretty much every mall you go to has a mobile rock chip repair guy in the parking lot.

Time to get it replaced. I hope you have no deductible windshield replacement.

That needs to be replaced. ticket-able offence where I live. I'm in the same boat. Just took a stone chip and sat there watching it crack as I drove . Haven't looked into aftermarket windshields yet. I'm sure the lexus one is pricey. Either way, I'll ride out the winter roads with it the way it is before I replace it.

Hmm I doubt that's accurate. Check with Pilkington brand. I've always used them in the past for windshield replacements and they are as good as oem. Infact, Pilkington produces windshields for some car manufacturers.

Mushi,
Did you ever replace your windshield? I just got a crack driving on the 101 from a rock chip last night.
It seems the Lexus OEM windshield is pretty soft (I already had a few nicks in the glass).

When I replaced mine I found out there were a lot of aftermarket windshields, so the insurance agreed to replace it with Lexus glass and I paid $15 out of pocket.
