I have the same view as well. jd93, if you want to have some DIY, try with the least aggressive method --- see if Meguiars' ScratchX will make the scuff mark come off. If not, try a mild polish with a DA machine. Your situation probably is not that bad.

I parked so far away and there were many spaces closer to the building. Luckily pointless dent repair fixed the dents and good as new. Still pissed off that I had to spend $75 . To the OP find a reputable shop to do the repair. If possible see what they've done in the past and the quality of work from reviews. It just sucks that no matter how much you care for your assets, you can't control carelessness of others.
There is another scenario where all the spots next to the curb are all taken ---people try to find the 2nd best spots -- i.e., try to close to a car which is parked by the curb and take the faith that it is mostly owned by someone who loves their cars.

In other words, the one besides you may be another car enthusiast who has true respect to cars. Of course, not a car too close to you. LOL

That's a good point lol. In that case I don't mind that person parking next to me knowing they look out for other cars and not ding them while opening a door. I do that all the time, making sure I open my doors carefully and not hit the car beside me regardless the condition of the car. That is so true though when a curbside parking is taken lol. I look for a nice car to park next to.

Great advise. I've had great success with ScratchX for years on my cars. Though not needed all the time, I follow up with a nice wax after ScratchX. Most of the time ScratchX does a good job eliminating or hiding the scuff/scratch.

Awesome! I'll try to get my hands on some ScratchX first. I don't own a DA machine

Thank you guys for the advice

Hi, the quote and the process explained is not out of ordinary, and I must say, much within the ballpark. I have gone through my dealers in the past with great results, with a similar process mentioned. Make sure you have no exposed metal. Once kept open for a few days, rust starts to form, which is essentially a point of no return.

My personal story. Not so long ago, I ordered my Lexus CT's upgraded F Sport front bumper from Sewell Lexus, they managed to horribly mismatch my color. After I had quite an extended email debate with Sewell, I decided to get it done from an aftermarket painter. My Lexus dealer (Lexus on the Park) was quoting an astronomical price, but the service advisor revealed they use a Toyota dealer for body repair and paint jobs (http://www.scarboroughtoyota.ca/) . I went to Chipmaster Markham (http://chipmastermarkham.com/) after tons of positive reviews at redflagdeals. A day (and $150 payment for the entire bumper) later, I was so happy that I found the guy.

Seconds ago I was chatting with my insurance provider, Meloche Monnex ((www.melochemonnex.com/en/home). I was told that for all nicks, cuts, keys, rash and gashes that my car will go through, I am covered with my comprehensive policy. Zero dollar deductible always helps. And no, your premiums won't increase unless you're at fault. My insurance provider says so.

In terms of protecting my cars, I do my best, given an infant and a toddler are on our tow almost all the time. Such as keeping the late model Sienna and CT always inside the garage and indoors, paint protection films, parking far, and trying to be close to those that keep a clean car, and enthusiasts car and what not. Nothing is foolproof, but three years since I bought my CT, there is not a single scratch on that car. The Sienna is scratch-less so far, touch-wood.

Hope this helps.

You can and should pursue diminished value but don't expect much. I just went through this on mine where I was rear ended and there was frame damage. Without frame damage they may offer you $2k max.

The process is, after it is repaired get a legitimate diminshed value appraisal. Make sure it is someone who comes out and actually sees the car. This will cost $200-300. Then you make a claim against the insurance company and they do their own valuation.

I'm still settling my claim but this is how it went:
Got DV App for roughly $5800, submitted claim
The adjuster offers $2975 and will not budge.
I sue them in court.
I offer to settle for $5000 and they decline
We have a settlement conference, they won't budge
A couple weeks later they come up to $3500, I decline
They come up to $4500, I decline
Now awaiting next offer or court date...

Have you tried turning it off and then on again? A simple reboot should resolve the issue.

Sorry, I'm being dumb. I really do hope it all works out for you! Good luck

wow who ****s up parking that badly? Amazing.

my 335d I traded for my new IS was backed into and that expensive M Sport bumper had to be totally replaced. Didn't think to get compensated for diminished resale.

hey guys, so just wanted to update you and say thanks for all the responses.
Turns out the driver was a 17 year old girl and she was driving her dads ford expedition. sigh what do i even say to that you know? she's a kid, she made a mistake unfortunately i was on the wrong end of that mistake. Im only 22 so I'm not much less of a kid than she is lol. anyway the detective said he had her come in with her father and she stated that she was petrified of me so thats why she drove away...that really doesn't excuse leaving the scene but what can i do. she will not be ticketed etc because its based on the detectives discretion. honestly if she was a 17yr old boy i feel like they would not have been as lenient. Thankfully they are insured and did notify their insurance company.

As of right now i have chosen a body shop which i was recommended to. worst part is ill never know if i made the right decision or not until the job is done. this place seems pretty legit, and the owners are extremely nice and know that i am a freak about the small details on my car. at this point all i can hope for is that i get my deductible back and my premium doesn't go up. as for the diminished value, geico said i can only claim it if i am for sure selling the car. i would have to get appraisals from two different dealerships. is this true?

scrapes like these are like popping your first cherry on your car. funny thing is this is my first new car i bought and wanted to keep it perfect forever. then i got a scrape very similar to this and the exact same spot too coincidentally. After that incident i realized it was bound to happen eventually and luckily mine was not that noticeable until you look closer.

im not happy that it happened but after it did i was able to enjoy the car more in a bitter sweet sense. not to mention i got a curb rash on right front wheel not too long after in a annoyingly stupid way.

That is a lie about DV... you don't have to sell your car claim DV. You have lost the value whether you sell it now or 10 years from now. A year from now you could think about selling but choose not to because you'll get a few thousand less than otherwise. You should be compensated.

Be aware that the amount will not be that great and it isn't that big of a deal seeing how the frame was not damaged and neither was the suspension or engine.
