had my first oil change by the dealer this weekend and they had put in way too much oil, i believe they said it was 7.7 quarts. So they redid the oil change and put in 7 quarts, or so they say. When I check the dipstick, it's about 1.5 cm above the high level marker. Is this alright or should I ask them to redo it again? I believe it requires 6.6 quarts, so will the .4 extra quart cause any harm?

A quick search on google states that an excessive amount of engine oil may cause various damages over time.

I recommend going through normal oil changing procedure to verify if the amount is accurate.

sorry but 3ISRC has it wrong. It is bad to have too much oil in the engine. Having too much oil in the engine could cause certain engine seals to go bad quicker and possibly the crankshaft to spin off balance. Theres explanations all over the web. So just google it if you want to learn more in depth about it

Look I'm not saying it's good to over fill. But we are talking what .3-.4 to be exact? I wouldn't worry about it is the point I'm trying to get across.

Eventually if you overfill enough, it will overflow up to the crank shaft and bad things can start happening as the crank shaft stirs up the oil. But like 3ISRC said, something like 0.4 qt will not be enough to fill it up that much.

This is exactly my point. I'm trying to help OP on not wasting his time over this. .4 is nothing to worry about and will soon be consumed. There's always a small wiggle room I would think to allow situations like this. Now if it was 1qt that's a whole another concern.

I think if he's worried, then take it back to the dealer and get it taken care of, sometimes that's what you do to get a peace of mind.

For what it's worth I have overfilled by a quart on my cars and literally nothing happened. Cars have tolerances, you know. If it broke with a simple half quart extra then everyone's cars would be taking a **** on the roads from the average dullard.
