at this point i'm going to sadly concur that this is as far as toyota is willing to go. seems like they were really caught blindsided and didn't improve their engines for a long time

lol
Hoovey, I'm just so disappointed in Lexus right now. Its not just the weird engine packaging on the IS line.
I hate the way the NX looks and I really don't like the 16 GS refresh. Letting the LS languish was idiotic too. I'm just kind of meh on the RC.
Not trying to derail the OP's point. Still like the brand just frustrated right now.

For me, this engine update is bittersweet. On one hand, Lexus is way behind BMW and others in the engine department and its just plain embarrassing. On the other hand, my 2015 model was an awesome decision because the mid-model refresh never came

Lexus ironically moves at a snails pace when it comes to performance and 'go fast'

I thought new 2016 GS350 will have 313hp (not 311). This is healthy 7hp and 3ft/lb increase lol. Despite the fact that Toyota's 2GR-FSE engine has been in the market for really long time now, it is still regarded as one of the best NA engines in the industry. It is a smooth, powerful and incredibly reliable motor. This seemingly small incremental increase in power does not come as a surprise to me. This engine was already operating at its peak. To squeeze more horsepower out of this engine would mean to raise redline limiter, which may compromise its reliability. In any case, for a 330-350hp and low end torque engine, it ought to have some form of forced induction. I don't think this NA engine can go more than what it already has and stay reliable. Also, I would not expect better MPG out of this upcoming upgraded engine.

I think it'll now be called the 2GR-FKS (Going to assume K if for Kaizen, which means to continually improve). Maybe it'll be an akinson/otto-cycle engine to allow it to meet more strigent CAFE standards for 2017? Or possibly the engine's power curve will be better suited to the 8 speed auto for improved performance? Either way, 311hp isn't weak sauce, but it's somewhat behind its competition.
