Default Wax Recommendations?

What's a good wax that I can pick up from local retail stores (i.e. Walmart, Target, Autozone), without having to order online? I don't want to break the bank for crazy expensive wax. I have the Ultra White exterior. Which type of wax is best for our cars? Spray, Liquid, Gel, Bar?

I'm looking for car wax in which I can scrub by hand and microfiber. Not looking for wax in which I have to use a buff machine. I want the new car smooth wax feel in which bugs can be easily removed without having to scrub much.

Let me know what brand you guys use so far and the outcome. Pictures of the wax container, price of the wax, and the outcome of the car is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I've never tried any wax in local stores, but just for your reference, this is what I use for waxing:

Amazon.com: Aero 5664 Shine Dry Wash and Protectant - 16 oz.: Automotive Amazon.com: Aero 5664 Shine Dry Wash and Protectant - 16 oz.: Automotive

It's a spray wax, so it's relatively fast to finish the whole car. (No need for buff machine)
I like it a lot so far.

Take some time to sort through the detailing thread and you'll find tons of great information on car care products and techniques. I've learned a lot from this forum:

My dad has owned various exotics and he buys SwissVax, and for how often i wax my car, I'll pay the extra few dollars and buy SwissVax products, they work wonders, but are definitely pricey.

Default ice ice baby

I use Turtle Wax Ice products. They are easy to use and can be used on your trim. People ask me all the time how i keep my car looking so good. It takes no time at all to do it, and in the in-between i use their detailer after almost every watch and their spray wax 1x/month on average.
I have 0 complaints and my cars have always looked great. Is their better stuff out there, sure, but it works and does what i want it to.
I find it's one of those things that you need to find what works for you and meets the goals you are trying to achieve. My car looks great, product is easy to use, and i like it so that's all that matters to me.
I placed high in car shows on my last car and its what got me the trophies and others used the more expensive waxes etc on theirs. My shine was every bit as good as theirs, granted theirs probably lasted longer but i probably had mine done in 1/4 of the time.
Good luck.

On my rx I use meguiars nxt 2.0. Lasts a long time and offers decent protection. I will try a spray wax when this bottle runs out just for the convenience factor

Meguiars Ultimate Liquid Wax and NXT 2.0 are very easy to apply. I follow with Meguiars Ultimate Quick Detailer also. I've since switched to a coating that should provide more protection since i DD my car and sits in the sun and parking lots a lot

Used p21s on my past cars. This can be found at local Harley stores for around $20.

Just put a layer of p21s 100 on the 350, around $50 with Amazon prime shipping. The instructions mention it may be better to put on by hand instead of a machine. I used a random orbital for the sealant and hand waxed the car.

Its not so much what you use, its more how the paint is prepared before putting it on.

Megiuars or Mothers spray waxes are pretty good, and they last a similar amount of time as regular carnuba stuff as they contain a small portion of it. Otherwise, mother's sealant is pretty decent as well and last a good 2-3 months. However, I would spend extra and order Opti-seal on amazon for $20. It literally will take 5 mins to spray it on the applicator, wipe it on, and walk away (no wiping or buffing). It will dry to a wet-like seal and will last 4-6 months.

drop me a pm with your email.

I have broken down a full detail and care car for the lexus community on facebook and here. Im happy to share.

Long and short - wax is not enough. A new car needs care. Thus, these are the proper steps to do that. Best over the counter products are Mothers or Griots Garage IMO.

I use NXT as a topper, but I also have my own goto for my car. Im BOB ( black on black ) Fsport, and I promise you my car looks wet all the time.....even when dirty.

I would avoid wax and go with a coating instead.

^ agreed. the 845 is great stuff that lasts and offers great protection for the time/effort/money involved. Keep in mind that the protection layer (wax/sealant) is going to do a better job if the paint is prepared properly for it (e.g. clayed, scratches removed, etc.) Here is a nice write up about it for more info/how to: http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/...ndary-wax.html
