Hello,

I received IS350awd before the yesterday. But engine sounds very weird to me. So I need your opinion.
When I picked up the car first, engine sounded like diesel engine. So I asked my dealer. He said its because of brand new engine and it would be fine soon. But it really bothers me. I have driven about 250Km so far. It still happens. I can usually hear that sound when I start the car and when the car idles. I would understand if it only happens at ignition on. But it happens when it idles and I park after I arrive to a destination.


Please watch this youtube video. You can hear noise like "dal dal dal dal dal dal". It sounds like diesel engine or when engine is out of oil.
I recorded this video with the door opened and last half is I recorded by bonnet.
I would appreciate your opinion.

Low quality video/sound but my guess would be the sounds from a Direct Injection engine

If the odd sound that you are referring to is similar to what you normally hear on a diesel engine then my understanding it is the sound of direct injection. These injectors under extremely high pressure deliver fuel right into cylinders and that process what creates this noise. If this is your first time you experience a DI engine then it is a normal reaction. Trust me you are not the only one who brought up this concern.

You can always ask the dealer to let you hear another IS 350 they have on the lot to put your mind at ease.

Like everyone else said, sounds like DI injector noise to me. Other people have said the engine sounds like a sewing machine, and I agree with that.

it is the sound of the injector ports opening and closing... I wondered the same thing
