Default Safelite Glass Repair

Has any one needed a windshield replaced and used Safelite? I guess they use OEM glass if your insurance covers it (which mine does). I just want to make sure that they windshield they use is identically to the one on the car now. ie, Lexus stamp, the tinted area around the edges and rear view mirror, etc.

If any one has any experience with Safelite, leave a comment and let me know how it went. Thanks!

We had a windshield replaced by Safelite a couple of years ago on a 2010 Maxima. I have no idea if they used an OEM replacement (it was my husband's car and he handled the replacement). However, I don't think the windshield alignment was correct and the noise afterward drove me crazy. I personally will never use them again.

I have but not on the 3IS. I used them 3 times for my Is300. OEM glass is a myth by the way. The only difference is the Lexus Stamp on the windshield. In the US all windshield are made by two companies and the Federal Gov. restrictions are extremely tough. Also a lot of times Safelight will buy the left over Glass from Manufactures with the Auto company name still on it if theirs any left over.

The main thing is the installer. Plus Safelight has a 100% satisfaction guarantee,

same as lextacy, I've used them a couple of times w/ my is300. I've never had a problem w/ them. if they mess up the install and it cracks or breaks for some reason, you get a new windshield. one time, one of the windshields the installed on my is300 would crack where the rear view mirror was tacked on; they replaced it for free.

I just had my windshield replaced through my insurance (USAA). The company that replaced the windshield told me it was a dealer only part. The replacement has a Lexus decal and all of the black dots etc.

The guy who did my install showed me how the windshield is keyed, so alignment is not a concern.

I have had three windshields replaced in my lifetime. One at a private shop, two by Safelite. The private shop replacement went well, without a hitch.

The two Safelite replacements were disasters. On one of the occasions, a pillar on my BMW was damaged, causing rust and paint bubbling visable a year later.

The moral of the story: use a reputable small business in your community rather than the McDonalds of the industry.

I have had my windshield replaced by SafeLight....

I had 5k on the OD. The only glass available for the car is via Lexus and in most cases comes from Japan. I had to wait a week just for the part to arrive. So, yes its a Lexus part. Yes, Safelight does the replacement and uses an OEM piece. Hope this helps.

I just had my windshield replaced by Safelite recently, My insurance company was not going to use the OEM glass at first but I insisted. They ordered it from Lexus and it took about 3 days and there is no wind noise and it looks just perfect. I have had windshields replaced in the past that were non OEM glass by Safelite and all I heard was terrible wind noise when I got to about 60 mph, with that said OEM glass makes a big difference and fits snug.

When I spoke to my insurance advisor I asked for an OEM replacement. I told them I have a local shop I would like to go through. They ordered OEM glass and 2 days later had it installed on my vehicle. My local shop tinted the front windshield at no cost. I had them use Air Blue 80.
