IS350 F-Sport Backup Proximity Sensor?
So my local service dept is making me seem crazy, but I thought that our cars came equipped with some sort of backup sensor that beeped faster as you got closer to an object.
This would be separate from the BSM system's cross traffic alert - strictly an alert to let you know how close you were to a stationary object when backing up.
I realize that F-Sports do not come with the Parking Assist feature, which include surface mounted, visible sensors - but I swear that when I first bought the car I was hearing a beep. I just got back from a few months abroad and now the noise is gone...
Am I crazy?

The only time it would beep in reverse would be when the RCTA (Rear Cross Traffic Alert) is sensing something coming. Without Parking Assist, there are no sensors to tell you if you are getting too close to something while backing up.

Radar?
I imagine this would be some sort of radar sensor hidden in the back bumper...again separate from the BSM system - I realize the blind spot sensors are also located in the rear sensor, but apparenlty those are only delegated to the sides of the car, not directly behind?
Can someone please get in their F-Sport and put it in reverse close to a wall to confirm? LOL

LoL, I wouldn't say crazy as I can see why you would be led to believe that. The beeps, however, occur only if the sensors detects a moving incoming object as you reverse.
Edit:
And yes, I've reversed probably several hundreds of times and have yet to see it beep as I approach a stationary wall. Got as close as 1 inch just to test how the reverse cam works.

The only time I hear the beeps is when I'm reversing out of my driveway and a car is approaching from the side. It's a bummer that they don't include this feature in the F Sport package..... my mother's 09 Sienna even has it.

I had the same question lol. I had no idea the F-Sport came with it. I was wondering why it wouldn't beep whenever I back into the garage, but it would beep when I'm reversing and a car is incoming. Guess I found the answer here.

I back into my space in a parking garage every M-F, as close to the wall as possible, and there are no beeps. The only beep you could have heard without parking assist is the cross traffic alert from your BSM.
