Default What is better offset on a 20" rim?

+40 or +45

Which is better to have on the 2014+ is Lexus? I see people that have a 20x10.5 with the +45. I have 20x10 with the +40 offset. Can someone explain the difference to me and how it affects the rubbing when lowered?

I also see many people with a 255/30/20 tire and have problems rubbing. I have a 285/25/20 tire and plan on lowering but waiting to make sure I will not have clearance issues. I am confused on what all this means?
