Default F-Sport Performance Intake -- INSTALLATION (w/PICS)

Hello,

So like many of you I have been researching what type of intake to install in my 2014 Lexus IS350 F Sport. Finally after reading countless posts I decided to go with the Lexus F Sport Intake.

My initial thoughts after install are as follows. It's very throaty and about 3,000 - 3,500 RPM it sounds amazing. Inside the cabin it's not very loud but can definitely tell it's there. I would rate the sound at 8 out of 10.

Here is my DIY guide if anyone else needs any help.

Difficulty Level: Low

Tools Needed

10mm socket
Standard Pliers
Needle Nose Pliers
Phillips Screwdriver

1) Loosen the M6 bolt that is securing the negative terminal for the battery.

2) Remove all the factory components

Loosen the inlet tube hose clamp at the throttle body
Squeez the clamp on the PCV Hose. Slide it back-n-forth til it comes loose.
Use a pair of regular pliers to unclip the hose from the retainer on the side of inlet tube
Next, unplug the MAF sensor
Use your needle nose pliers to unclip the wiring harness from the side of the factory air box.
unclip all 4 retaining clips on the air box lid. Remove it all together.
Carefully remove the factory air filter

3) I put a towel on the floor and removed the MAF sensor from the factory air box.
Install the MAF sensor on the F Sport AIr Box Lid (be careful not to stripe the screw)
put in the new F Sport air filter (good time to blow out box with leaf blower and wipe clean)
Install the coupler and hose clamps on the throttle body. (make sure hex heads are face up)
Insert the F-Sport intake tube into the coupler. Make sure you don't tighten it yet til you have it properly fitted.
Insert hose clip into retaining bracket on F Sport intake tube. You should hear it snap when it clicks into place.
Attach the PCV hose to the F Sport intake and go ahead and secure the clamp. After instsalling your bellows make sure your hex heads are face up.
install F Sport air box lid into the bellows and lock in the 4 clips.
Hook back up your MAF sensor and secure the wire clip to the side of the F Sport air box.
Tighten the coupler and bellows hose clamp at TB air box. Torque to spec (30in. lb. 5 in-lbf)

4) Put your engine cover back on and reconnect the negative battery terminal. At this point you can slap on the label but I opted not to since I'll be doing all the general maintenance.

Yes they do, I bought one from the Lexus dealer. I already had the Joe Z intake.

They do sell just the air filter if that's all you need. I'll post the part # today.

What is the benefit to doing this on the 3IS? I had the same intake on my 2IS but that version of the engine sounded whiny and needed a throaty boost. The F-Sport 3IS already sounds pretty throaty IMO because of the F-Sport changes to the resonator and what not. IMO this may make it sound too throaty. Can you post a video?

but i am not sure how this is different from stock? I does look gorgeous.

anyone can enlighten me on changing the tube (other than aesthetics)?

I'm in to get a gear head to explain the performance aspect of this intake as well. How much form and how much function is the intake. I've always been a proponent of a high flow drop in filter with stock intake set ups for the best bang for buck daily driver set up. How much improved performance does this thing add?

agreed, not too sure if you need to change the whole tube to get performance?

unless the tube is bigger? perhaps slightly more air? me baffled

I have had it in for almost a week and I'll say as far as performance I can't tell any difference. The sound is not as loud as the stock intake. However, I have seen almost a 3 mpg increase in my daily driving since I did install it.

I am going to be picking up a GoPro 4 Silver Edition in a few days. When I get it I'll be sure to record some video (in cabin vs outside the cabin etc).

I'll post my results soon!
