I am only explaining that ESP has nothing to do with mileage and explaining how it works. When ESP/TC is on it enables the car to cut fuel and apply brakes when slip is detected. Thus leaving it on would improve fuel economy not detract from it. Its just a coincidence in your study. You started driving in Eco mode and started paying attention to how you drive more. Eco mode does in fact hold you in higher gears (keeps revs down) and prevent shifting as much as well as deadens throttle sensitivity (50% throttle input may only = 30% throttle opening). This will save fuel. ESP on or off will not.

Hehe, my results are around 15-18mpg all the time as I am city driving too.

TCS doesn't do anything but cut fuel and apply braking to get traction...it's so quick, there wouldn't be any measurable difference in MPG since the gas you'd be wasting causing the loss of traction MIGHT be negated some from the TCS. If theoryguy was having MPG issues, it was because of his heavy foot.
