Humming noise when car is off
So I went into my garage last night to shut the door. I heard a slight buzzing/humming noise coming from the car. I narrowed the noise to under the truck of the vehicle. It sounded like a fuel pump was running. I don't know when it started, but it was about 5 hours after the car was driven last. After a little research, I found this in the manual page 8:
"Approximately five hours after the engine is turned off, you may hear sound coming from under the vehicle for several minutes. This is the sound of a fuel evaporation leakage check and it does not indicate a malfunction."
I have two questions. 1)does anyone else hear this? If so, how long does it last? I started my car and it stopped after that 2) could this be The case of why some people have dead batteries on the 2014? Maybe this runs to frequently or stays on too long?

I hear it too. Sometimes I would park in a parking lot, stay in the car for 5-10 minutes, and I would hear the buzzing/humming sound for about 10 seconds.
I also hear it in my mother's RX.

Mine was definately longer than 10 seconds as I was trying to figure out where the sound was coming from. I haven't heard the noise after 10-15 minutes after the car has been shut off, so I wonder if this is the same thing?

That is the EVAP system leak check. It occurs when you have between 1/4 and 3/4 tank of gas within a certain temperature range.
I have a Sienna, Corolla, and IS350f in my garage and many nights when I go out to get something, one of them is running.
Really freaked me out at first. It's buried in the owner's manual somewhere.
You can read all about EVAP on Google, it's a senseless system that causes your vehicle to fail OBDII onboard diagnostics and set the MIL ("Check Engine") if you have a gas system vapor leak larger than a human hair, because that could allow fumes to escape.
Apparently, the fumes that escape when you take off the GAS CAP exposing a 1.5" "leak" are ok!

1) Normal, my FJ does it as well, doesn't last very long. After you stopped you car it will perform the same test in ~5hrs time. Nothing to worry about.
2)No. The test only happens once and ~5hrs after you turn off the car. It is not a test that runs continuously. My FJ has been doing the same test for nearly 9 years and the OEM battery just died so no its not the cause.
