US vs Canada vs Intl - Oil Change Intervals
Wondering if everyone could weigh in their thoughts for what an appropriate interval is for oil changes, or what Lexus recommendations are around the globe, since I know this forum has a broad international audience.
In the Canadian maintenance manual (attached), oil changes are recommended the every 6 months or 8000 kilometres (~5000 miles). On the US Lexus website, oil changes are recommended every 12 months or 10000 miles (~16000 kilometres). How can the interval be twice as frequent north of the 49th parallel? Could it be due to harsher climates in Canada? Can a fellow Club Lexus member in a northern European country weigh in on this?
In particular, I'm wondering when I should have the first oil change completed because I am a low-mileage driver so at the 6 month mark, my IS350 would probably only have about 3000 kilometres.

When to change your oil.....its all right there...every 8,000km OR 6 months. If at 6 months you only have 3,000km then so be it and change the oil.

I'm also a low mileage user but I do change it approximately every 6 months despite hitting only about 6k km. I notice the oil gets fairly black by this time so I know that this interval makes sense. Surely our more extreme climate and temp variations, slightly different fuel cleaning agents, and other environmentals contribute to the more aggressive 8k km interval. Of course, Lexus Canada cash flow also plays a role here, but to save two or so oil changes every few years, is it worth the risk?

Here in Singapore, its every 6 months, or 10,000 km.
side note, oil being black doesnt mean its time to change, it means its doing its job! follow your service book! i am sure they thought about it.
