If I would've known ahead of time that the rears would poke out, I would've certainly went with a wider tire.

jdot85 : If it's not too much to ask, do you mind posting a picture of your rear rims? I understand they may not be mounted so you can't take a close up now, but a picture from far would do the job (if by chance you took one in the past). I already ordered 225/40R18 (they're refundable if I change my mind). I doubt 235's would make a big difference.

I would love to see a pic of the 225/40/18 on the back 9 inch wheel as well. I just ordered this size in the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 as well. I was between that and the 235, since it would fit the rear a little better. However, the 235 had more of an impact on the speedometer.

Tire rack lists a 16" setup that is much cheaper. Has anyone measured to see if they would fit around the brakes? I'm away for a few weeks so I can't measure myself but curious if they would fit.

Unfortunately I haven't switched over to my winter tires yet and I never got around in taking any pics last winter. But to get an idea of how much rim is exposed, I did a quick google image search and it looks like the below wheel on the left. I hope this helps.

Relax...it's 1.3 / 100 difference!

Your mileage will be off by 13 miles every 1000 miles.

I used to have 235/40/18 tires on 18x8.5 on my WRX 3 years ago and there was barely any stretch. . However, keep in mind that winter tires are generally designed to have smaller thread width that may make them appear stretched a bit. Although 235/40 may not sounds like it may make a difference, it does. You add 5mm in each direction of the thread but you also add a lot more in section width. 234/40 has a section width of 9.5" while 225/40 is 9"

My order came in yesterday and it is being stored at the local shop but I got a chance to look st the tires. The Hakka R2 are super nice and I think they appeared wider for 235/40. That maybe because they are not mounted yet...

We would not recommend a 16" for this fitment.

The OP profile says he has a 14 Lexus IS350 F Sport and we would recommend a 225/48/17 tire and a rim that is 7-8.5" wide. Searching on our website by correct year, make and model will give proper, guaranteed fit.

I'm going to run the second winter on my 225/40 Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 studded tires on stock rims. No problems during three months of driving last winter.

The rears are stretched a little, nothing to worry about.
