I'm at a standstill right now trying to tap into my mirror. I have the cord from mirrortap (as well as an old invisicord from my previous car) and am having no success getting any power. I was able to pull down and take off the cover but when I plug into the blue + purple - nothing. I don't want to force anything and split any wires, so not sure what the issue is. Am I trying to tap into the wrong wires? Any help? This is for an Escort 8500. Thanks

JP30 is your car running while u are doing this? you're only going to get power from blue if the car is on.

I'm not sure how else to help, beacuse I just did this on sunday using this and it was super simple. pushed it in right next to the existing blue on the white clip and the existing purple on the white clip and we were good

Is there a chance that what you're using is too thick for the pin receptacle?

this is the one I used if helpful:

No, car is off when I am doing this. I have the red cord going into blue wire and black cord going into purple wire (both of which are at the bottom left of the white clip). Is this correct? I'm a little nervous to push in too hard and slice a wire. Once I do this, I turn the car on and radar does not power on. I went to an audio shop and they would not help me saying they don't recommend doing it, they rather charge me $75 to tap into the fuse box. I know this is super simple I've done it on my past two cars (Acura's), but cant figure this one out. I'll give it another shot this week I guess

I will say that I noticed it being tough to push into the pins. When it finally went all the way in for me, i swore I broke something, just from the way it kinda slipped in easily after what I would say was a pretty generous amount of force. to be clear nothing broke, it was perfectly fine. So i mean try this at your own risk, but I'd suggest u push it in as far as it will go even if it gives some resistance. Also plug into the white clip (harness side) not the black clip (mirror side)

If you look at the link i posted for you above, take a look at the length of tips of the wires. I pushed it in to where the red/black was right up against the white clip, meaning ALL THE WAY in.

Dnno if that'll help ya bud but it was fairly simple for me. Kinda surprising how simple in fact.

Thanks for your help. Yes the pins are quite thick, but also on the invisicord they are about the same and I've tried both. Thought people have had success with both of those. I can try to push in more because I would say the furthest I got was about halfway in but felt some resistance and stopped. Perhaps I will try another cord or push in further, but like I said I'm hesitant not wanting to slice the wires and causing a bigger issue

well i think i know that 'half way stop' that you're referring to, and pushing beyond that and when it finally made it past that it worked fine. I kinda jiggled it as i pushed to get over the existing pin. but I am pretty sure that's your issue... that until you get it all the way in past that mid point resistance you'e not going to get good contact.

look for an ignition fuse under the drivers footwell fuse box. Turns on when the car is on, turns off when the car is off. Ran a dash cam and radar detector off two ignition fuses there and had no issues.

lmao $75 to tap into a fuse?

Exactly, I laughed when they told me $75. He went on to say they would have to "rip apart the panels" - I said no thanks the car is 3 months old. I was trying to make this as simple and clean as possible with the mirror tap, avoiding fuse panel, etc.

I'm going to take a shot again tonight. I've been driving around without a radar for weeks. Any other cords people can suggest?

Just the one I linked you to. Its relatively inexpensive, I've used it/tested it, its got an inline fuse, it is slim enough to be 'out of the way/not an eye sore,' and most importantly it works. Should be all you need.

Thanks - I missed that link earlier. Will give it one more shot with the mirrortap wire tonight, if that fails I will order this (although they look nearly identical). I think the issue is simply I'm not pushing it all the way in, just nervous about slicing the wire as they seem very fagile
