As you said in a follow on post, you can't blame the car for horrible driving conditions. Cars aren't rated based on hugely populated city traffic. When I lived in DC with a car that had a smaller engine it averaged 14-16mpg. Best advice I can give is Metro ...IF your city has it.

I never follow anyone up close and leave a good gap 1) I do not want to rear end anyone, and 2) it lets me coast versus hit my brakes if the car in front decides to turn into a shopping lot.

I actually find the digital speedo on the F-sport difficult to gauge and maintain my speed. Without that visual need "swinging" it's not as intuitive for me (still in the learning curve).
Drive pretty much (I still romp ...try to only do it when its safe) the same way. I don't tailgate, I don't like to use my brake so I coast as much as I can. I don't hit the break like some people do when going uphill on an overpass (gravity works just fine), thereby, having to hit the gas again shortly after. I don't mash the gas pedal in stand still traffic as soon as the car in front of me starts going, I anticipate by watching ahead and the car has decent enough pickup to stay in sync. Simply letting off the gas is usually a good enough brake, doing it in Sport mode is even better.

Pretty much always 24-25mpg right now - up from 21mpg when I first got the car.

On your last statement, which is originally made me want to respond... just go by feel man. I honestly rarely look at my gauges these days. Even on canyon runs in Sport/+ mode I look to confirm but I'm rarely surprised. The car puts emphasis on RPM and once you get used to that you'll prefer it. The car may be numb compared to sport sedans with hydraulic steering (like an m3) but it still communicates quite well. I usually know what my car is thinking and its smarter than I am.

How many mpg's are you averaging? What a ****ty situation!
Here is my commute this morning. 7 mph and 7.4 mpg. It's only a couple miles and whenever the weather is nice, I actually walk instead of drive. But it shows what real city driving is like. What the EPA calls "city" is actually suburban driving, with avg speeds in the 20-40 mph range.

To look on the bright side, I still use a lot less gas overall living in the city.

IS 250 Non F-Sport
5500 miles on the clock
I regularly make the trip from Dallas to Lubbock, TX (West Texas, about 320 Miles) and on the freeway with 93 octane I average just under 30 MPG. When Im in Lubbock however the only choice is 91 octane and I drive the majority of the time in the city. Thats when I get to about 22 or 23 if Im lucky.

Mine said the same thing when I first bought my car last year, it'll go up just:

1) let the car break in
2) Learn how to use the shift paddles
3) Expect lower MPG for city drives if you have a lot of stop-and-go traffic

I just picked up mine this weekend and have only put around 70 miles on her, so I'm only seeing around 17 MPG currently.
