Default Value of IS250 FSPORT after 1 year of Ownership.

Hi everyone,

I think a lot if you know that I had a 2014 IS 250 fsport obsidian/red interior that I recently sold to Carmax in order to obtain the 350 F sport.

Carmax appraised my car at $35,000. And they now have it listed for sale at $38,998. My car had about 9200 miles.

I just wanted to let you know the value of my car after ownership of one year since I know a few people have posted as being curious to what the value of their car was after 1 year.

It's interesting because I sold my car to the Burbank, CA Carmax location and they transferred it to the Ontario, CA Carmax location.

Just curious - what was the sticker and what did you pay for it?

My wife's 09 and 11 both held their value similarly.

Thanks, Bill G

Interesting...I went to Carmax in Torrance and they offered me 34k with only 2k miles. MSRP was 43.1k. It was a joke.

Thanks for the info. I keep my eye on Carmax just for giggles and have seen quite a few '14 IS models come and go there. With the no haggle pricing at Carmax, I can see where the offers people get will vary. It is all about demand and timing at Carmax. I had a buddy who worked there and he once told me those offers vary by the hour. Right now it looks like the demand is high as not many of the IS's they get seem to stay around long.

So if you got a good deal up front when you purchased, and are looking for a quick dump for cash, Carmax COULD do you right and you may come out as good as dstopsie did.

Almost 80% of msrp for a one year old vehicle doesn't seem that bad - the value goes down dramatically as soon as you leave the dealer with the car.

In the last few years I've seen several surveys showing Lexus models in general holding their value better than any other make (note that this can vary on a per-model basis, so you pretty much have to run the numbers on every model under each make to do an accurate analysis).

There was a rumor floating around that the 2nd gen 350 held its value better than the 250, but I did some number crunching on Blackbook, KBB and NADA at the time and found them both to be valued at a consistent percentage of their respective MSRPs. In theory in a private sale you might get a little more for a 350 if the person wanted one bad enough (because Lexus produces less of them and thus they are in less supply), but at the same time the market knows that faster cars get driven harder and/or abused more which can negatively impact resale as well so it mostly evens out. Also gas price trends can impact cars with greater fuel consumption, if the public is worried about prices going up, and this is a less predictable factor.

Anyone have any hard data on 3rd gen 250 vs 350 one year later with an accurate apples/apples comparison?

Wish we had Carmax in Canada. Seems like buying a used car is so much easier through them

Just curious sir. How much was SRP of your IS 250 when you bought it and exactly how many months ago?

I've sold the last 2 cars through them and have gotten between KBB trade-in and private sale each time.
